On March 19, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries will host the 6th session of the "GX Acceleration Research Conference". This assembly aims to discuss essential initiatives focusing on 'nature-positive' practices within the agriculture and fisheries sector.
Background
Since the establishment of the "Green Food System Strategy," efforts to reduce environmental impact have steadily progressed. However, Japan has been experiencing a long-term rise in average annual temperatures, raising concerns about the effects of heat on production sites. As the Green Transformation (GX) becomes a cross-sectoral issue for the government, it is crucial to enhance the sustainability of the food and agriculture sectors. The acceleration of initiatives within the Green Food System Strategy is thus vital for promoting GX.
Moreover, in line with the new "Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture, and Rural Areas"—approved by the Cabinet on April 11, 2025—the Ministry aims to compile focused strategies known as the "Green Acceleration GX Plan" by 2030. To realize the GX promotion in the agriculture and fisheries sector, the conference will identify the key points for accelerating the Green Strategy, understand on-site realities, highlight immediate issues, and assess effective responses.
To this end, the "GX Acceleration Research Conference" was established, which will gather insights from diverse stakeholders involved in the food system.
