Arelion Expands Connectivity with New PoP in Rome's Aruba Data Center

Arelion Strengthens Network Footprint with New Point-of-Presence in Rome

In an exciting development for the digital infrastructure landscape in Italy, Arelion has announced plans for a new Point-of-Presence (PoP) set to be established at Aruba's Hyper Cloud Data Center (IT4) in Rome. This strategic move is aimed at catering to the surging demand for high-capacity connectivity solutions in the region, particularly as the Italian data center market continues to witness rapid growth.

The Strategic Importance of the New PoP

Arelion's upcoming PoP marks an important expansion in its network within Italy, as it will be the company's second location in Rome. By enhancing its footprint in this vibrant tech hub, Arelion aims to provide improved tier-1 connectivity, which is essential for ensuring low-latency service delivery that meets the needs of multinational enterprises. This is especially crucial as Rome has been gaining significant traction in venture capital investments, particularly in the fintech sector, attracting 11% of the national total.

The addition of the new PoP is strategically timed to coincide with the growth of digital services reliant on robust infrastructure, such as cloud computing and advanced applications like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

Aruba's Hyper Cloud Data Center: A Hub for Innovation

Aruba’s Hyper Cloud Data Center is a state-of-the-art facility that spans an impressive 74,000 m². At full capacity, it will host five independent data centers, backed by a total IT power of 30 MW and designed with redundancy levels that meet or exceed 2N standards. The first of these data centers, known as DC-A, is already operational, with plans for the second to launch in the first half of 2025.

DC-A has also received ANSI/TIA-942 Rating 4 certification, a remarkable achievement that reinforces its compliance with the highest industry security standards. Moreover, the site connects with Aruba's existing data centers in Arezzo and Bergamo through multiple backbone connections, facilitating seamless integration across the network.

Commitment to Growth and Connectivity

As highlighted by Davide Binaghi, Managing Director of Arelion Italy, this new PoP underscores their dedication to global network growth, aligning with the surging investments in Italy’s data center sector. The strategic landing of new subsea cables at Aruba's facility further positions Arelion to offer scalable backbone services that are critical for managing global subsea traffic, which is expected to bolster the region's tech ecosystem even further.

Andrea Colangelo, Director of Network Infrastructure at Aruba, echoed this sentiment, stating that establishing a PoP in Rome is a vital step towards enhancing the city’s role as a key connectivity hub on both national and international scales. As demand for cloud services and emerging technologies grows, both companies are committed to developing infrastructure that supports rapid digital transformation, focusing on high-performance connectivity and optimal conditions for their clients.

A Bright Future Ahead

The introduction of Arelion's Point-of-Presence at Aruba's Hyper Cloud Data Center is paving the way for an exciting future where digital infrastructure and cloud services can thrive. With a strong commitment to sustainability and energy-efficient solutions, coupled with an emphasis on securing high-tech infrastructure, this collaboration bodes well for the ongoing evolution of Italy’s digital landscape. As such, the tech community can look forward to enhanced services and capabilities, all designed to meet the demands of a digitally-driven economy.
