Pasona Group's 'Pasona Library' Project: Aiming to Enrich the Lives of Children in Care
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Pasona Group, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has unveiled a significant social contribution initiative called the 'Pasona Library.' This project aims to donate books to children living in care facilities across Japan, enriching their formative years and nurturing their hopes for the future.
Recent statistics reveal that there are approximately 600 child care facilities nationwide, housing children who face various challenges, including domestic abuse and economic hardship, making it difficult for them to live with their parents. With the rise of digital devices in schools, opportunities for children to engage with printed materials have diminished in recent years. However, research indicates that adults who read more during their childhood tend to exhibit higher levels of 'futuristic thinking,' social skills, and self-esteem. These findings emphasize the importance of reading in fostering well-rounded, confident individuals.
With this backdrop, Pasona Group is committed to supporting the growth of children through literary exposure. The 'Pasona Library' project will solicit book donations annually from both educational professionals and members of the Pasona Group, who will recommend suitable titles based on various topics and age appropriateness. Beginning June 22, Pasona is accepting applications from child care facilities wishing to receive these book donations.
The selection process for the donated books will involve a review by educational experts, alongside recommendations from Pasona Group employees. Donations may include both new and gently used books gathered through fundraising activities and contributions from staff, ensuring a diverse range of genres available for the children.
Pasona Group intends to continue this project yearly, believing that encounters with books can spark curiosity in children and contribute positively to their educational journey. Through the act of sharing books, they hope to inspire various dreams and aspirations among the youth in care facilities.
