NOK Kluber Introduces Groundbreaking Low Dew Point Grease
NOK Kluber Corporation, a group company of NOK Corporation based in Tokyo, has unveiled a new grease that is set to revolutionize battery manufacturing processes by catering to ultra-dry environments with dew points between -50°C and -70°C. This innovative product, aptly named
Low Dew Point Grease, addresses the critical lubrication needs of lithium-ion and solid-state battery production equipment, enhancing operational longevity and reliability.
Introduction of the Product
The
Low Dew Point Grease is specifically developed for application in battery manufacturing, a field that requires extremely low moisture levels to ensure product quality. Traditional lubricants often fail under such dry conditions due to increased friction resistance, which ultimately compromises lubrication effectiveness. Recognizing this challenge, NOK Kluber developed a specialized testing technology to recreate ultra-dry environments and evaluate lubrication performance under those conditions. This robust testing process allows for the selection of lubricating components that maintain a stable lubricating film and do not include metallic elements that could adversely affect battery characteristics.
NOK Kluber will showcase this product for the first time at the
BATTERY JAPAN [International] Secondary Battery Exhibition, scheduled for March 2026.
Development Background
In the development of the Low Dew Point Grease, NOK Kluber recognized the necessity for reliable lubrication in environments where moisture is virtually non-existent. With their proprietary testing approach, they were able to conduct friction tests that simulate a dew point of -50°C. Results demonstrated that the new grease effectively minimizes friction resistance, maintaining consistent lubrication performance over time. This low-friction property is essential not only for reducing wear on manufacturing equipment but also for enhancing productivity through stable operational performance.
Key Features of Low Dew Point Grease
- - Robust Lubrication in Ultra-Dry Conditions: The grease excels in lubrication capabilities, directly contributing to the longevity of manufacturing equipment.
- - Metal-Free Formulation: It is formulated without specific metallic elements such as copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and iron (Fe), mitigating the risk of defects in battery characteristics that could arise from these metals.
- - Energy Efficiency: The grease also performs well in standard atmospheric conditions, aiding in energy conservation for manufacturing processes.
Beyond the Low Dew Point Grease, NOK Kluber also offers a range of lubricants designed for clean room environments, including the
ISOFLEX TOPAS NCA 152. This low-dust grease minimizes the presence of particles produced during manufacturing, ensuring product integrity.
