Nippon Chikudenchi Starts Power Reception at New Fukushima Storage Facility

Launch of Energy Resilience in Fukushima with NC Iwase Gun Storage Facility

Nippon Chikudenchi Co., Ltd., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced that its newly constructed grid storage facility, the NC Iwase Gun Kamoishi-cho Storage, has officially started power reception on March 3, 2026. This facility plays a critical role in stabilizing energy supply by absorbing and smoothing the fluctuations of renewable energy outputs. Positioned as a decentralized energy hub, it responds to market needs across JEPX (Wholesale Market), demand adjustment markets, and capacity markets.

Facility Overview

The NC Iwase Gun Kamoishi-cho Storage is located in Fukushima Prefecture and boasts an impressive rating of 1,988 kW output capacity with a storage capacity of 8,146 kWh. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, the storage system utilizes CATL batteries combined with TMEIC’s power conditioning system (PCS). This integration ensures a high level of reliability and control performance, necessary for stable operation in response to market dynamics.

Additionally, the facility is designed as a disaster prevention base to support local power supply in emergencies, thereby enhancing regional resilience against potential disasters. The construction and design were executed by Suzuki Electric Co., Ltd., which ensured that considerations for environmental conservation and safety were integrated into the project’s execution.

Importance of Energy Storage

With the rise in renewable energy dependence, the balance of electricity demand and supply has become a crucial challenge that needs addressing. Storage batteries play a vital role in absorbing fluctuations and ensuring stable grid operations. As part of this initiative, the NC Iwase Gun facility employs advanced battery storage solutions to offer stability to varying energy demands in the region.

The reliability of the new facility is enhanced by the powerful technology provided by industry leaders, which positions it to effectively manage both short-term and long-term energy supply variations

Future Developments

Nippon Chikudenchi is set to expand its grid storage initiatives nationwide, establishing a robust framework for collaboration with local communities, municipalities, and corporations. This endeavor aims to contribute significantly to achieving a decarbonized society and improving disaster preparedness within various regions across Japan.
