It promises to showcase contributions from well-known cat-loving celebrities, making it a vibrant and inclusive event.

The theme of this year’s exhibition is "Turning the World Upside Down with Cat Art! - Planting Seeds of Smiles and Peace on Earth Through Cat Art." This initiative aims to engage the global community in the joy of cat appreciation while promoting peace and creativity through art. Visitors will have the chance to explore various expressions and perspectives influenced by the beloved feline companions.

Throughout the exhibition, attendees can expect to see pieces from various forms of art, including modern paintings, sketches, sumi-e (Japanese ink paintings), photography, crafts, and more. This year’s exhibition continues to ride the wave of the "cat economy" phenomenon, showcasing how the love for cats is transforming the art scene.

Engaging the Community through Art

One of the unique aspects of the Tokyo Cat Art Exhibition is the "Everyone’s Cat Art" segment. This initiative encourages the public to submit their cat drawings and photographs via social media using the hashtag #TokyoCatArt. Approximately 300 submissions will be printed and showcased at the venue, allowing visitors of all ages to participate and express their creativity. The deadline for submissions is June 10, while those submitted by May 18 will have a chance to be featured in the inaugural issue of the annual magazine, "Tokyo Cat Art Encyclopedia 2025," set to be released alongside the exhibition.

Launch of the Tokyo Cat Art Encyclopedia

In line with the exhibition, the first edition of the Tokyo Cat Art Encyclopedia 2025 will be published, featuring 64 full-color pages filled with contributions from participating artists, special articles related to cat art, showcased entries from the "Everyone’s Cat Art" section, and even delightful cat poems. This publication aims to capture and share the evolving culture of cat art, providing insights and narratives that celebrate this unique fusion of passion and creativity.

Future Directions

The Tokyo Cat Art Exhibition will be the third edition of this beloved event, previously known as the Cat Art Festival. The exhibition is expected to grow in the coming years, succeeding on its past success with notable displays, such as original works by popular figures like Nobuyuki Tsuchiya of Knights and special contributions from influential cat characters like Nyanko-sensei.

Following the 2025 exhibition, future events are planned, including a move to the O Museum in Osaki, scheduled for February 2026, coinciding with Cat Day. This event aims to provide a platform for cat-loving artists and connect them with a broader audience while pushing forward with innovative projects in the art sector.
