Discover the Unique Sauna Experience of TOTOPA Hakata Station
Today marks the grand opening of the TOTOPA Hakata Station, the second location of Tokyo Tatemono's urban spa brand, which has already earned the top spot in the Sauna Michelin rankings. Nestled in the bustling area around Hakata Station, this facility is set to redefine relaxation with its meticulously designed spaces and exclusive experiences.
A Legacy of Expertise
The TOTOPA brand leverages the rich experience of Tokyo Tatemono, which began operating bath facilities under the name "O風呂の王様" in 1999. The first TOTOPA located in the Meiji Park in Shinjuku is anticipated to open in 2024 and has already received accolades in both 2024 and 2025 from SAUNACHELIN, showcasing the brand's commitment to exceptional sauna experiences.
A Masterpiece of Cedar Wood
One of the standout features of TOTOPA Hakata Station is its sauna room, dubbed the "Millennium Sauna," constructed entirely from a single Western red cedar tree. This tree, approximately 800 to 1000 years old and boasting a trunk diameter of 1.4 meters, offers unique characteristics such as high insulation and a delightful fragrance, making it an ideal choice for sauna construction. Due to environmental restrictions making the procurement of such lumber increasingly difficult, this sauna represents a rare opportunity to experience the beauty and benefits of this exceptional wood.
The interior of the sauna and other areas, such as the signage, utilize the same cedar, ensuring an immersive experience that celebrates this ancient tree’s allure in every corner.
Creating a Relaxing Atmosphere
Throughout the facility, visitors can enjoy serene bathing environments that enhance relaxation. The women’s and men’s bathing areas feature tiles sourced from Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, known for their rustic feel and soft edges. This harmonious design pairs beautifully with the wood, promoting a soothing atmosphere for all guests. Additionally, vibrant tile art featuring poppy motifs by local artist KYNE adds a colorful touch to the spaces, enriching the overall experience.
KYNE, who has gained recognition for depicting cool, expressive females in her artworks, contributes greatly to the spa's ambiance, with the poppy symbolizing compassion and care—qualities that resonate with the venue's objectives.
Exclusive Amenities
Guests can also take advantage of the relaxation lounges featuring free drinks, which offer the perfect spot for recovering between sauna sessions. The facility has both outdoor and indoor rejuvenation areas designed for relaxation, all while serving soft drinks so visitors can keep hydrated after their sauna experience.
Moreover, each locker in the changing rooms is equipped with Anker charging cables, allowing guests to power up their devices while enjoying their time at the spa. The men's area even offers a lounge serving alcoholic beverages and unique custom drinks for added enjoyment.
