FOX News Channel Dominates Primetime Ratings All Summer Long, Surpassing Rivals

FOX News Channel Dominates Primetime Ratings

In an impressive display of popularity and viewer preference, FOX News Channel (FNC) emerged as the undisputed leader in primetime television throughout the summer of 2025, culminating its successful streak on Labor Day. For the entire month of August, FNC consistently outperformed its competitors, averaging an astounding 2,432,000 viewers on a weekly basis. This remarkable feat saw it eclipse major networks such as ABC, NBC, and CBS, with viewership numbers reading 2,376,000, 2,208,000, and 2,028,000 respectively.

Consistent Viewer Engagement

Throughout August, Fox maintained a solid audience engagement, recording an average of 2.3 million viewers in the coveted primetime slot from 8 to 11 PM Eastern Time, along with securing 237,000 viewers in the targeted 25-54 age demographic. This consistent viewership underscores the network's strong appeal, particularly among key demographic segments.

Now, with a total audience of 1.4 million viewers throughout the day and 160,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic, FOX News held a commanding 63% share of cable news viewers, leaving competitors like CNN and MSNBC in the dust. Notably, CNN experienced substantial setbacks with some of its lowest ratings in history, while MSNBC similarly struggled, showcasing the shifting landscape of cable news viewership.

Top Programming Successes

FNC's programming lineup has made significant contributions to its success. The show The Five, airing at 5 PM/ET, stood out as the top television program during August, drawing in 3.5 million viewers and 345,000 in the 25-54 demographic. It successfully outperformed CBS's Big Brother and the launch of ESPN's College Gameday.

Moreover, at 8 PM/ET, Jesse Watters Primetime led all programs in that time slot with an impressive 3.1 million viewers. FNC's late-night highlight, Gutfeld!, continued to dominate its time bracket with a solid 2.8 million viewers, defeating notable competitors across the major networks.

The Significance of FNC’s Ratings

Hannity remained a powerful force at 9 PM/ET as well, drawing in 2.6 million viewers and holding onto its position against notable broadcast competitors like ABC's Good Morning America. Furthermore, the success of The Ingraham Angle and FOX News @ Night reflected FNC's ability to capture diverse audience segments and maintain high viewer retention.

FOX & Friends, the network's leading morning show, also retained its title as the number one cable news program with a viewership of 1.3 million, showcasing FNC's dominance during the daytime segments. The results from August showcase a 54-month streak of leading viewership ratings in the 25-54 demographic over CNN and MSNBC.

Reinforcing Leadership

Additionally, FNC's strategy of creating a wide array of programs that cater to various viewer interests has paid off. Its morning news program, America's Newsroom, reported 1.8 million viewers, the Faulkner Focus attracted similar numbers, while Outnumbered garnered 1.9 million on average, all surpassing major competing networks.

The network's dominance was not limited to weekdays, as its weekend programming also captured attention across the board. My View with Lara Trump became a standout on Saturdays, securing 1.3 million viewers for its time slot.

Looking Ahead

Overall, FOX News Channel continues to exert its influence and presence within cable news, constantly adapting to the viewers' preferences while managing to outperform its competitors significantly. The viewer trends indicate a growing trust in FNC as a reliable news source, solidifying its status as a staple of American television news consumption.

As we move into the fall season, all eyes will be on FOX News as they seek to maintain their momentum and further engage their expansive audience base in an ever-evolving media landscape.
