Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT) Reopens in Harajuku
On December 13, 2025, Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT) will officially reopen in a new location just a two-minute walk from Harajuku Station. This significant transition from its former Shibuya base aims to enhance creative activities that blend art and digital technology, fostering a platform for diverse expressions of creativity within the urban landscape.
A New Beginning in Harajuku
CCBT has evolved since its opening in October 2022 in Shibuya, becoming a gathering point for artists, designers, researchers, and technologists. The shift to Harajuku marks a pivotal moment for CCBT, as it aspires to expand its influence not just locally but globally, integrating more deeply into the community while offering exciting new experiences.
In conjunction with the reopening, CCBT will feature an opening event that highlights innovative art and experimental music projects. The artist collective SIDE CORE will lead a special exhibition that explores how individuals can express messages within urban and public spaces, referencing street culture's history and philosophies. Their work will emphasize collaboration and connection through creative practices.
Featured Opening Events
The initial day of the reopening will showcase a music event curated in partnership with musician and artist Kazumichi Komatsu. This experimental project aims to redefine the future of sound through technology and interdisciplinary collaboration, connecting diverse audiences and broadening the potential for musical expressions.
CCBT will also present a series of workshops, performances, talks, and exhibitions surrounding the annual theme of “The Commons of the Future.” The tagline, “Cities demand imagination,” will inspire participants to engage with their surroundings from fresh perspectives, challenging traditional views on urban life and technology.
