Piramal Critical Care and Blue-Zone Technologies Partner for Anesthesia Gas Recovery
In a significant move towards sustainability in healthcare,
Piramal Critical Care, Inc. (PCC), a subsidiary of
Piramal Pharma Limited, has collaborated with
Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd. to develop advanced technologies for the capture, collection, and recycling of waste anesthesia gases. This innovative partnership aims to minimize the environmental impact of volatile anesthetics utilized in medical settings.
The Collaboration Overview
The partnership integrates Blue-Zone's cutting-edge technology for capturing and purifying surplus anesthesia gases with the extensive production and marketing capabilities of Piramal. This initiative not only addresses ecological concerns but also ensures that the essential product, inhalation anesthetics, remains a primary method for providing general anesthesia worldwide.
Pending regulatory approval for the
Phoenix Deltasorb® system in Europe, Blue-Zone plans to offer its gas capture systems to PCC customers initially in France and Germany. Blue-Zone will oversee all activities related to the installation and operation of its systems within healthcare facilities, while PCC will utilize the extracted anesthetic gases through Blue-Zone’s technology to produce
Sevofluran USP, approved for human use in Canada.
Both companies expect to expand the capture and recycling of surplus anesthetic gases and the marketing of Sevofluran USP derived from extracted gases to additional regions in the future.
Comments from Leadership
Jeff Hampton, the President and COO of Piramal Critical Care, expressed pride in this collaboration, highlighting the importance of reducing waste and environmental burden caused by anesthetic gases.
