Discover Tokyo: Unique Nature Tour on Miyake Island

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in cooperation with the Tokyo Tourism Foundation, has launched an exciting participatory initiative called the "Tokyo Tomorrow Project." This event series, comprised of three distinct gatherings, aims to deepen the understanding of Tokyo's culture and natural allure among residents and local businesses while fostering a warm atmosphere for travelers.

About the Nature Tour

The third event in this series, titled "Experiencing Nature on Tokyo Island: Encounter Volcanoes and Whales on Miyake Island," is now open for participant registration.

Miyake Island is renowned for its rich natural diversity, being home to volcanic landscapes and vibrant marine ecosystems. This trip will allow participants to explore both the cultural practices intertwined with nature as well as the unique ecosystem shaped by volcanic activity. Each excursion has been designed thoughtfully to engage the senses, encompassing educational and hands-on experiences.

Event Schedule and Details

• - Date: Saturday, January 24, 2024, 9:00 AM – Sunday, January 25, 2024, 11:30 AM
• - Meeting Point: Ako Fishing Port Passenger Waiting Room "Kokopōto" (672-3 Ako, Miyake Village, Tokyo)

Activities Include:

• - A guided tour of the island’s volcanic landscapes, which may involve exploring volcanic walking trails and whale watching excursions.
• - A hands-on experience harvesting local vegetables, to immerse participants in the island’s sustainable agricultural practices.

Participation Cap: Approximately 30 participants (selected via lottery)
Application Deadline: Monday, December 8, 2023, at noon

Alongside the nature tour, there will be a connected event titled "Creating the Tokyo Petamap on Miyake Island," which will take place in the waiting area of Ako Fishing Port Passenger Waiting Room on January 24, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and January 25, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
