The highly anticipated official program for the
2025 Hockey Japan League has finally been completed and is now available for purchase. This edition features a stunning cover that marks a significant milestone for artist
Kousuke Ota, who has beautifully depicted the excitement and joy of hockey through his vibrant artwork. Residing in
Fukuoka Prefecture, Ota takes on the challenge of sports art for the first time, creating a piece that is not only visually captivating but also resonates with the exhilaration of the sport itself.
About Kousuke Ota
Kousuke Ota was born in
Miyazaki Prefecture and diagnosed with autism accompanied by intellectual disabilities at the age of two. Despite these challenges, he began expressing himself through art at the age of ten. Ota creates his paintings without preliminary sketches or inhibitions, aiming to spread happiness to everyone through his work. He channels his genuine feelings directly onto the canvas, avoiding any doubts or concerns about perfection. His approach fosters a unique, raw perspective in his artwork, enabling him to connect deeply with viewers.
Ota’s previous works like “Lion 2024” and “Gorilla 2023” have gained recognition, and his incredible journey was featured in an NHK documentary titled “Art Gives Freedom - An Autistic Painter and His Family” in April 2021. This documentary highlighted his artistic journey and the support of his family.
Moreover, a representation of Ota’s artwork will be featured in the TBS series
“Lion's Hideout,” set to air in April 2024. The show will showcase the art created by
Mik-kun, a character played by actor
Ryuta Bandou, who embodies the perspective of a young man on the autism spectrum, drawing attention to the beauty and strength of inclusive representation in media.
