Tower Records Shibuya Launches 'Hong Kong Music City'



Tower Records Shibuya is set to embark on an exciting new venture called 'Hong Kong Music City', aimed at showcasing the vibrant music scene of Hong Kong to the Japanese audience. This initiative is a collaboration between Tower Records Shibuya and talented artists from Hong Kong, kicking off in 2025. A special section dedicated to this initiative will be established on the 7th floor of Tower Records Shibuya, curated to present a comprehensive selection of physical music works centering around CDs, all reflecting the diverse and rich appeal of Hong Kong’s music.

Exciting Live Events Planned



As part of this cultural exchange, an array of thrilling events themed around Hong Kong music will be introduced. The integral producer of these initiatives is none other than Kendy Suen, a well-known singer-songwriter from Hong Kong. To start things off, an acoustic live performance by Kendy Suen will take place on April 26, 2025, in the event space on the 5th floor of Tower Records Shibuya. This concert will feature Kendy Suen performing in a duo format alongside the renowned Japanese composer Yusuke Hatano, creating a perfect blend of musical styles that illustrates the collaboration between Japan and Hong Kong.

Attendees can get their hands on 'free entry tickets' with seat numbers, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis on the 7th floor of Tower Records Shibuya.

Please note: Event details and participation methods are subject to change. The number of 'free entry tickets' is limited to two per person. If tickets are no longer available, standing areas will be opened but be aware that due to crowd conditions, viewing may not be guaranteed.

Kendy Suen: A Multi-talented Artist


Kendy Suen is a multifaceted singer-songwriter from Hong Kong. Beyond her music projects where she takes on self-producing roles, she also expresses her thoughts and feelings through Chinese calligraphy, showcasing her artistic versatility. Since releasing her debut solo EP 'No Name Prelude' on vinyl and cassette in 2021, she has continued to innovate with her music. In 2023, she introduced her EP 'Pi(π)', which showcased groundbreaking sound production. Her single 'Hakubai (Yayoi mix)', released in March of the same year, featured Japanese lyrics and garnered over 30,000 streams within just a month of its release.

In 2024, she curated an art exhibition themed around the song 'Venus’s Birth', collaborating with seven visual artists from Hong Kong to reinterpret Venus in their individual styles. Her active participation in the 2024 'INSPIRATION OKINAWA' music festival is also a testament to her global outreach and collaborations with contemporary musicians.

Yusuke Hatano: A Renowned Composer


Yusuke Hatano is a talented composer with over a decade of experience in the pop music and film music scenes in Hong Kong. At the age of 31, he became the youngest Japanese nominee for the Hong Kong Film Awards, achieving a remarkable recognition in his field.

Having lived in various countries, Yusuke's diverse cultural background heavily influences his musical style. He adeptly navigates through a wide range of genres including classical, jazz, contemporary music, and electronic sound. In recent years, he has been actively performing original compositions throughout Hong Kong, mainland China, and various parts of Japan, aiming to innovate and bridge musical styles for new possibilities.
