Vantage Foundation Partners with Grab Indonesia to Empower Women Drivers
Vantage Foundation Teams Up with Grab Indonesia
On December 19, 2024, Vantage Foundation announced an exciting new partnership with Grab Indonesia aimed at empowering women through the innovative Wiramudi Grab program. This initiative has been created to cater specifically to the unique challenges faced by women in the workforce, particularly those struggling to balance rigid working hours with family commitments.
The Launch of Wiramudi Grab Program
The Wiramudi Grab program was launched in April 2024 as part of Grab's commitment to providing opportunities for women to become driver-partners. This program allows women to enjoy the flexibility of choosing their working hours while also earning a competitive income. Additionally, it emphasizes the core message of “Progress without Compromise,” allowing women to pursue both their careers and family responsibilities without having to choose one over the other.
Through this collaboration, Vantage Foundation and Grab Indonesia have positioned themselves not just as service providers, but as catalysts for social progress. The partnership aims to assist women by addressing significant barriers, including access to necessary driving equipment and funding, which many women reported as obstacles to entering the workforce as drivers.
Breaking Down Barriers
A focus group survey conducted by Grab Indonesia revealed that almost half of the participating women cited lack of capital and equipment as major challenges. In response, this partnership provides essential resources and financial support aimed at helping women to overcome these hurdles. Since the partnership commenced in November 2024, it has already enabled over 1,000 women to join the Grab platform, allowing many to achieve newfound financial independence while supporting their families.
Steven Xie, Executive Director of Vantage Foundation, shared his thoughts on the partnership, stating, “Through this initiative, we are not only equipping women with the necessary tools to succeed but also fostering a positive ripple effect within their communities.” The tangible impact of the Wiramudi Grab program can be seen through the stories of its beneficiaries. For instance, a single mother from Bali expressed gratitude for the daily electric vehicle (EV) bike rentals, which let her focus on her earnings without the burden of vehicle ownership costs. In another case, a driver from Makassar noted that her role as a Grab driver provided crucial support after her husband suffered a stroke.
Safety and Support Features
In addition to facilitating labor mobility, Grab has shown commitment to the safety and well-being of its women driver-partners. The company has introduced various safety features within the app, such as a Women Passenger Preferred option, allowing women drivers to match with female passengers. Moreover, Grab offers training and education programs, comprehensive safety protocols, and vehicle service discounts as part of their ongoing support.
Rivana Mezaya, Director of Digital and Sustainability at Grab Indonesia, remarked, “Our mission focuses on enhancing economic empowerment, especially for disadvantaged groups, including women. Partnering with the Vantage Foundation has allowed us to remove key barriers while creating meaningful income opportunities for women and their families.”
Conclusion
The Wiramudi Grab program, which spans 18 cities throughout Indonesia, has created a pathway for women seeking flexibility and financial stability as driver-partners with Grab. As they continue to drive forward, both Vantage Foundation and Grab Indonesia are paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable working environment where women can flourish, both at work and at home.
