Thunes Launches Fast Payments to Colombia Through Bre-B for Enhanced Accessibility

Thunes Launches Instant Payment System Bre-B in Colombia

Thunes, known as the Smart Superhighway for international money transfers, has unveiled a revolutionary real-time payment platform, termed Bre-B, designed for transactions to and from Colombia. This innovative system, launched on October 6, 2025, unites the capabilities of Thunes with Colombia's national instant payment infrastructure, which is managed by the Banco de la República, the Colombian central bank.

This latest achievement showcases Thunes' dedication to integrating and enhancing Real-Time Payment (RTP) frameworks globally while promoting financial inclusion. By utilizing the Bre-B system, users can transfer and receive funds instantaneously at any time, transcending the limitations typically imposed by traditional banking hours. Transactions can be executed between various platforms, including those offered by banks, cooperatives, fintech services, and digital wallets.

Since its official launch, Bre-B has already attracted a staggering 30 million users, equivalent to 76% of Colombia’s adult population, signifying a swift adoption across the nation. Thunes is among the pioneering global payment channels empowering real-time cross-border transactions, hence significantly improving transaction efficiency and reliability.

Chloe Mayenobe, the President and COO of Thunes, remarked, "Thunes is actively involved in fostering Real-Time Payment mechanisms, helping both individuals and businesses move money swiftly, securely, and transparently. We appreciate the innovative vision of central banks, like Colombia's, which are modernizing financial systems to enhance inclusion and interoperability. Teaming up with Bre-B, we aspire to propel Colombia’s integration into the real-time global economy and set a precedent for seamless payments in the region."

Despite the advances in digital financial services, it is noteworthy that nearly 78% of transactions in Colombia still rely on cash, indicating a significant opportunity for digital transformation. The landscape is changing rapidly, however, as seen in the country's high bank account penetration rate of over 92%, along with an increasing trend in the adoption of mobile wallets.

Aik Boon Tan, Thunes' Chief Network Officer, added, "By integrating Bre-B into our Direct Global Network, we exemplify how public-private partnerships can ignite financial evolution. This expansion allows us to help Bre-B extend its reach beyond local borders, granting residents and businesses access to broader global commerce."

The introduction of Bre-B marks a salient pivot for Colombia towards a digital-first economy, wherein enhanced accessibility to payment services can potentially revolutionize how citizens engage with financial offerings. This is expected to foster an environment that's not just more efficient but also conducive to financial growth and economic stability.

In conclusion, with over 92% of bank account penetration and the surge in mobile wallet usage, the launch of Bre-B signifies a pivotal milestone for Colombia. It not only represents a step towards a more digitally inclusive economy but also a foundation for future financial innovations leading to comprehensive financial access for every Colombian citizen.
