Brightspeed's Significant Investment in North Carolina

Brightspeed, the third-largest fiber broadband provider in the United States, recently announced a landmark investment of $31.2 million awarded by the state of North Carolina. This funding aims to enhance the Brightspeed Fiber Internet network, a crucial step in bridging the digital divide across various underserved regions.

With this substantial investment, Brightspeed plans to expand its fiber network to an additional 18,000 locations spread across several counties, including Beaufort, Caldwell, Carteret, and more. Steve Brewer, Brightspeed’s regional director of government affairs, highlighted the urgency of improving internet access. He stated, “Brightspeed Fiber Internet is already available to more than 430,000 North Carolina families and businesses, and we're expanding access every day.” This move reflects Brightspeed's commitment to enhancing connectivity in communities that previously lacked reliable internet service.

The funding from North Carolina's Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program will be supplemented by more than $13 million from Brightspeed's own coffers. The combination of state funding and private investment amounts to approximately $218.6 million, which aims to help connect nearly 99,000 households and businesses across 41 counties.

Pamela Sherwood, Vice President of Brightspeed Broadband, emphasized the critical need for faster and more affordable internet.
