MEXC and CoinGecko Reveal Massive Growth in Traditional Finance Trading on CEX Platforms

MEXC and CoinGecko Unveil CEX Trading Growth Insights

MEXC, a frontrunner in no-fee digital asset trading, has teamed up with CoinGecko to publish a compelling report titled How Crypto Exchanges Are Reshaping Traditional Asset Trading. This groundbreaking study reveals a dramatic increase in trading volumes of traditional finance (TradFi) assets on centralized exchanges (CEXs), showcasing a notable shift in investor behavior.

Dramatic Increase in TradFi Trading Volume

The report indicates that trading volume across six prominent centralized exchanges surged from $3.46 billion in January 2025 to an astonishing $393.15 billion by June 2026, marking an over 100-fold increase. Notably, perpetual futures accounted for nearly all of this activity, comprising 98.5% of total trading volume in June.

Furthermore, U.S. stocks have now overtaken precious metals as the leading category in TradFi trading for the first time. In June, U.S. stock volume skyrocketed by 337.4% to $189.84 billion, representing 48.3% of the market share. Conversely, the volume of precious metals significantly declined by 48.2% from its earlier peak.

MEXC itself witnessed an impressive growth trajectory, with its monthly TradFi trading volume skyrocketing approximately 59-fold from $1.54 billion in November 2025 to $91.12 billion in May 2026. The exchange consistently held the second-largest market share among its competitors during the first five months of 2026.

Shifts in User Trading Behavior

One of the profound insights from the report is the shift in user categories. Among crypto-native users, a notable 61.9% have ventured into trading traditional assets on CEX platforms. Meanwhile, a significant 74.2% of users with prior experience in traditional finance have also transitioned their trading activities onto crypto exchanges. This trend is indicative of a broader movement towards integrated trading platforms where users can manage diverse asset classes from a single account.

Key Advantages of Trading on CEXs

Survey respondents highlighted several benefits of using centralized exchanges, including:
  • - Always-On Access: Users enjoy a seamless trading experience at any time.
  • - Lower Friction: The process of switching between asset classes is smooth and efficient.
  • - Faster Execution: Transactions occur rapidly, meeting the demands of today’s fast-paced trading environment.

These advantages seem to be driving the increasing preference for CEX platforms.

MEXC's Strategic Positioning in the Market

Recognizing the burgeoning interest in traditional finance assets, MEXC has strategically expanded its offering in this sector. Its substantial growth underscores the platform's adaptability in including not just cryptocurrencies but also equities and commodities. In April and May, MEXC led the market in precious metal trading, reporting volumes of $72.12 billion and $85.15 billion, respectively.

CEO Vugar emphasized MEXC's commitment to this evolving market landscape. He noted, "Traditional assets are becoming a core part of how users engage with crypto exchanges, rather than an experimental product category." MEXC aims to enhance its infrastructure and introduce various products aligned with user demand, further broadening its asset coverage.

The Future of TradFi on Crypto Exchanges

The study indicates that TradFi trading on crypto exchanges has morphed from a niche market to a significant component of the derivatives landscape. With perpetual futures as the primary focus, the volume generated in June underscores a substantial user engagement trend.

While precious metals initially drove the market's growth, the recent surge in interest in U.S. stocks reveals a maturation and diversification of trading activities within the CEX landscape.

In conclusion, the MEXC and CoinGecko report illustrates an exciting evolution in trading behaviors as centralized exchanges continue to integrate traditional finance assets. With significant increases in trading volumes and user participation, the landscape of digital asset trading is undergoing a remarkable transformation. MEXC's proactive response to these trends positions it well for sustained growth and success in the future.
