OASIS Senior Center Welcomes New Board Members as Part of 40th Anniversary Celebration

OASIS Celebrates Milestone with New Board Members

In a significant move to bolster its commitment towards senior citizens, the OASIS Senior Center, located in Northern Santa Barbara County, proudly announces the election of three new board members. This announcement comes amidst the celebration of its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of dedicated service to the local community.

The nonprofit organization, which stands for Orcutt Area Seniors in Service, has been a lifeline for seniors in the region, delivering a plethora of enriching programs and resources aimed at enhancing the well-being and independence of older adults.

Introducing the New Board Members

The new members, Rene Beebe, Logan Smith, and Joseph D. Borjas, bring a diverse range of expertise and passion to the board.

Rene Beebe, currently the Vice President and SBA Department Manager at American Riviera Bank, has honed her skills in banking and small business development. Her dedication to community service shines through her tenure as Treasurer for Hospice SLO County, where she blends her financial expertise with a personal commitment to supporting grief counseling and end-of-life care. Beebe's enthusiasm for the Central Coast community is evident, as she embraces the region's natural beauty and vibrant culture.

Logan Smith holds a notable background in the military, having spent 13 years on active duty with the Air Force. He currently serves as a Government civilian in the Space Force, where he continues to push projects forward in collaboration with federal agencies. After relocating to the Central Coast in 2024, Smith quickly recognized the area's charm and potential, which he is eager to contribute to through OASIS.

Joseph D. Borjas, a local attorney with deep roots in the Santa Maria Valley, specializes in trust and estate planning, focusing on family protection and legacy preservation. He first joined the OASIS board from 2018 to 2021 and is thrilled to return, emphasizing the center's vital role in the community's support for seniors. His work often overlaps with clients who benefit from the resources provided by OASIS.

Executive Director's Remarks

Michelle Southwick, the Executive Director of OASIS, expressed her excitement over the new additions to the board: "I'm excited to welcome Rene and Logan to the Board, and to congratulate Joseph on his re-election. Their expertise and dedication to our community will be critical as OASIS continues to expand its services and grow in size and capabilities."

The new members will collaborate with existing board members to enhance OASIS’s offerings and promote its mission to foster community engagement for seniors.

Future Developments

OASIS continues to grow, with a new 14,000 square foot facility under development that will expand their capacity and improve services. This new space will include ADA-accessible recreational facilities, a cutting-edge computer lab, and areas for large gatherings. Additionally, new programs are set to launch, focusing on health and wellness, creative arts, and outdoor activities aimed at keeping the community's seniors engaged and active.

This year has seen a series of remarkable events, including the 40th anniversary luau party, and the upcoming St. Patrick's Day gala planned for March 14, 2026, complete with casino games and festive activities.

OASIS has been a beacon for seniors seeking camaraderie and support, offering over 50 unique opportunities each month, such as health workshops, art classes, and wellness programs. Membership is available for $35 per individual or $60 for two people in the same household, making these essential services accessible to more members of the community.

In conclusion, OASIS remains a devoted advocate for vulnerable senior citizens, striving to keep them connected and actively participating in community life. For more information about OASIS and how to get involved, visit www.oasisorcutt.org.
