Helping Hand for Relief and Development Allocates $5 Million for Pakistan's Flood Crisis Response

Urgent Relief Response for Pakistan's Historic Floods

Pakistan is currently facing its worst flooding disaster in nearly fifty years. The catastrophic event has been triggered by relentless monsoon rains, glacial melting, and sudden floods, causing widespread devastation across the nation. Since June 26, over 1.5 million people have been severely affected by the floods, with an alarming estimate of more than 20 million individuals at risk. Tragically, the floods have resulted in the loss of at least 819 lives, including 203 children, and thousands more have suffered injuries. The disaster has also obliterated more than 8,600 homes, leaving many families without shelter.

The infrastructure has taken a serious hit, with 238 bridges and around 410 miles of roads destroyed, isolating entire communities. Livestock, which is crucial for the livelihoods of many rural families, has also been lost in alarming numbers. The ever-looming threat of more floods downstream presents an additional challenge, especially in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan, further complicating the recovery efforts.

In response to this ongoing humanitarian crisis, Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) has pledged a $5 million emergency relief and rehabilitation package. This essential funding aims not only to meet immediate needs but also to support long-term recovery plans. HHRD's dedicated Emergency Relief and Disaster Management teams are working tirelessly to deliver vital assistance. Their ongoing relief efforts include:

  • - Provision of Cooked Meals: Ensuring that those displaced and affected receive nutritious meals to sustain them.
  • - Distribution of Dry Food, Milk, and Energy Biscuits: Providing essential nutrition, especially for children and vulnerable populations.
  • - Access to Clean Drinking Water and Hygiene Kits: Essential to prevent waterborne diseases in flooded areas.
  • - Urgent Medical Care: Providing health services through mobile medical camps stationed in hard-hit regions.
  • - Shelter Provisions and Rebuilding Assistance: Helping families either find temporary shelter or begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.

To date, HHRD has successfully delivered assistance to over 51,000 individuals affected by the floods. The scale of the disaster is causing a desperate need for increased aid and support, and HHRD's commitment to addressing these needs continues to grow daily.

“Pakistan is facing a humanitarian catastrophe of historic proportions,” said Javaid Siddiqi, CEO of HHRD. “Our $5 million intervention offers a lifeline to those impacted, but the magnitude of this tragedy calls for urgent global solidarity and support.”
