Taco Celebrates Leadership Milestone with First Graduates of Manager Development Program

Taco's First Manager Development Program Cohort Graduates

In a significant milestone for employee growth and development, Taco has proudly celebrated the graduation of its inaugural class from the Manager Development Program (MDP). This two-year initiative was meticulously crafted to identify and nurture future leaders within the organization across the globe.

The MDP serves as a cornerstone in Taco's strategy to invest in its people, focusing on creating a pool of well-equipped leaders who resonate with the company’s culture. Until now, leadership training at Taco was often fragmented, resting within specific departments. The MDP, however, aims to unify these efforts through a collaborative framework that promotes shared management practices and clear expectations.

Within the program, participants undergo an engaging curriculum designed to blend experiential learning with practical application. The course is structured in two tiers; the first phase emphasizes self-awareness, effective communication, and strategic planning skills. In the second phase, participants deepen their learning by focusing on coaching, delegation, conflict resolution, and fostering team development. Throughout their training, they apply new skills to real-world business challenges, thereby reinforcing their learning.

A hallmark of this unique program has been the active participation of Taco’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The ELT has engaged directly with the graduates, facilitating discussions, assisting with presentations, and fostering informal networking opportunities. This level of involvement underscores the company's commitment to leadership development as a priority for its future. Ben White, the President of Taco, expressed his pride in the graduates during the ceremony, stating, “You have strengthened your ability to lead successfully and create opportunities to influence, inspire, and empower others. The way you lead every day will help shape the future of Taco.”

The impact of the MDP is already being felt across the organization. Graduates have reported an increase in their self-assuredness, a clearer understanding of their leadership styles, and improved communication capabilities. Additionally, managers have redirected their focus towards enhancing team development, which has fostered better collaboration within Taco’s workforce.

Thomas Materne, a Manager in Technical Services, articulated the shared experiences that the program facilitated: “We all face the same challenges as managers. This journey brought us together, making us better leaders and Taco a stronger company.” The global dimension of the MDP also provided a unique opportunity for participants, enhancing their sense of perspective and interconnectedness.

In a landscape where many organizations are retracting their development initiatives, Taco remains steadfast in its belief that leadership growth is crucial to its business strategy and culture. Amr Fass, Taco’s Director of Global Talent, pointed out, “At a time when many organizations are scaling back development initiatives, Taco continues to invest in leadership growth.”

Originating from the company’s U.S. headquarters, the MDP aims for international implementation, with the first graduating class comprised of leaders from both North America and Europe. Victoria McCoy, Chief Human Resources Officer, noted, “The expansion of the program internationally was aimed at developing leaders with a consistent foundation in self-awareness and management.” As the program evolves, it continues to foster a unified leadership approach across borders.

Looking ahead, Taco is eager to build upon the success of the inaugural cohort and is already working on refining the program for future classes. Graduates can also look forward to enriching their leadership journey through opportunities such as the Global Learning Summit and additional MDP Leadership Groups.

The Manager Development Program stands out as a fundamental aspect of Taco’s talent strategy, ensuring the continuous development of leaders who will guide their teams, strengthen organizational culture, and deliver dependable solutions for customers.
