ICS Lab Takes a Stand Against Cyber Threats at IIFES 2025

Achieving Zero Downtime: ICS Lab at IIFES 2025

The ICS Lab, led by CEO Masashi Murakami, is set to showcase its efforts to achieve zero downtime in manufacturing processes at the upcoming IIFES 2025, taking place from November 19 to 21 at Tokyo Big Sight. This year, the focus is squarely on the rising threats posed by cyber attacks against factories and critical infrastructures, making it an urgent issue for industries worldwide.

The impact of cyber attacks on manufacturing can be profound; disruptions can lead to significant economic losses and jeopardize social infrastructure. In response to this pressing concern, ICS Lab has teamed up with five other companies in the Virtual Engineering Community (VEC) to demonstrate real-world scenarios of how the industry can prepare for targeted cyber assaults. Their theme, "Preparing for Targeted Cyber Attacks: A Challenge Towards Zero Downtime," underscores their commitment to resilience and operational stability.

A Live Demonstration of Attack and Recovery

At the VEC booth, a model factory controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) will serve as the stage for a simulated cyber attack. This demonstration will reveal how an attacker can infiltrate a corporate computer via the internet, subsequently taking control of the factory management systems and aggressively halting the production lines (PLC).

However, the core message of this demonstration goes beyond merely showcasing an attack. It emphasizes the necessity for both defense and quick recovery post-attack. Under the concept of "Security by Design / Resilience by Integration," the demonstration aims to illustrate how industrial systems not only endure attacks but also recover rapidly from any disruptions.

This unique presentation by ICS Lab highlights their expertise in OT/control system security consulting, providing crucial insights into the importance of building robust security frameworks around industrial processes.

Expert Insights from CEO Masashi Murakami

Each day at 4:15 PM, Masashi Murakami, as the VEC secretary-general and the CEO of ICS Lab, will provide a 30-minute discussion on the theme "Challenge Towards Zero Downtime." He will share the motivations and background behind the demonstrations, offering participants a deeper understanding of the critical nature of industrial cybersecurity.

Moreover, throughout the exhibition, ICS Lab consultants will be available for discussions at the booth. Attendees concerned about their own factory's security or unsure about where to start in the realm of cybersecurity can engage with these experts for guidance and support.
