Runway Growth Capital Appoints Carmela Thomson as CFO, Tom Raterman as Vice Chairman

Leadership Changes at Runway Growth Capital

Runway Growth Capital LLC, a major player in providing growth loans to both venture-backed and non-venture-backed companies, has recently announced key changes within its executive leadership team. These modifications are designed to enhance the firm's long-term strategy focused on disciplined growth, optimal capital formation, and continuous operational efficiency.

On June 30, 2026, Carmela Thomson, who previously served as the Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting, took over the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from Thomas B. Raterman. Raterman, who held the positions of both CFO and Chief Operating Officer, is now positioned as Vice Chairman of the company.

David Spreng, Founder, CEO, and Chief Investment Officer of Runway Growth Capital, expressed confidence in Thomson's capabilities. He noted, "Carmela's appointment highlights the strong leadership team we have cultivated from within. Her disciplined leadership and thorough grasp of our financial strategy significantly enhance our confidence in this succession plan, which emphasizes continuity and long-term growth. Tom has been an invaluable partner since our inception, and his transition to Vice Chairman allows us to continue leveraging his expertise on strategic initiatives across the platform."

Thomson joined Runway in June 2021 after her tenure at KPMG LLP, where she significantly contributed to establishing the company's accounting and financial reporting frameworks. These efforts were pivotal in Runway Growth Finance Corp.'s transition to a public company the same year. Since then, she has played a crucial role in refining the firm’s financial practices and capital-raising endeavors, while managing the accounting and operations during a period marked by rapid growth. With extensive experience in accounting, auditing, finance, capital markets, and portfolio operations, Thomson is well-positioned to lead Runway's next stages of operational execution, particularly regarding financial integrations and reporting associated with its latest strategic transactions.

"I'm thrilled to assume the CFO role and appreciate the trust that David, Tom, and our team have shown in me," stated Thomson. "Runway's disciplined, credit-first approach and its partnership-centered culture have been crucial to our achievements, and I'm eager to help propel the company further."

Prior to joining Runway, Thomson excelled at KPMG LLP as an Audit Senior Manager, specializing in audit services, accounting and risk management for financial institutions. A Certified Public Accountant, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Economics from Loyola University of Chicago.

This leadership transition coincides with Runway's continued efforts to scale its operations, enhance its capital markets capabilities, and assist late- and growth-stage companies seeking flexible alternatives to equity financing.

Raterman, now serving as Vice Chairman, pivots from his regular CFO and COO duties to focus on strategic initiatives, including portfolio optimization, mergers and acquisitions at a platform level, and overall capital formation. He will maintain a vital role within Runway Growth Finance Corp. (Nasdaq RWAY), the firm’s publicly traded business development entity, participating in the investment committee and addressing special situation asset management.

Reflecting on his decade-long journey at Runway, Raterman said, "I'm proud of what we've established over the last ten years and grateful for the opportunities to help steer the platform into its next chapter. This evolution allows me to further support the BDC, our investment committee, and our leadership team while dedicating more focus on strategic initiatives that will reinforce the platform’s growth and long-term success."

Since Raterman joined Runway shortly after its founding in 2015, he has been instrumental in constructing the firm’s finance, operations, capital markets, and reporting infrastructure. Notably, he has played a key role in Runway Growth Capital's public offering and the firm’s expansion towards providing flexible growth capital to late- and growth-stage companies.

These leadership changes underscore Runway Growth Capital's commitment to strategic development, positioning itself well for future growth opportunities. To learn more about Runway Growth Capital LLC and its innovative platform, visit www.runwaygrowth.com.
