Empowering Women in Indonesia: Grab's Partnership with Vantage Foundation Continues to Thrive
Empowering Women in Indonesia: Grab's Partnership with Vantage Foundation
On January 9, 2025, Grab Indonesia, a leading super application in Southeast Asia, proudly announced its partnership with the Vantage Foundation to bolster their ongoing Wiramudi Grab program. This initiative is uniquely designed to empower women, enabling them to earn income through flexible job opportunities as driver-partners across Indonesia.
Addressing Workplace Challenges
Launched in April 2024, the Wiramudi Grab program aims to tackle the specific challenges faced by women in the workforce, particularly the struggle of balancing traditional work hours with family obligations. This is encapsulated in the primary campaign message, "Progress without Compromise." The initiative emphasizes that women do not need to choose between advancing their careers, managing family responsibilities, or pursuing education. Instead, they are encouraged to embrace a work-life balance by choosing their working hours, gaining access to competitive earning potentials, and enjoying various exclusive benefits that come with being a Grab partner.
Breaking Barriers to Entry
Through this collaborative effort, the Vantage Foundation has played a pivotal role in enabling numerous women to join the Grab platform, significantly reducing critical barriers such as access to funding and necessary driving equipment. Participants receive essential resources and financial assistance to begin their journey as Grab driver-partners. According to a study conducted by Grab Indonesia, nearly 50% of women identified access to capital and equipment as major obstacles to entry.
Since the partnership began in November 2024, over 1,000 new women have joined the platform, and hundreds of existing drivers have utilized additional capital, allowing them to return to driving and earning income. As Steven Xie, Executive Director of Vantage Foundation stated, "Through this partnership, we provide women not only with the tools needed for success but also create a ripple effect of positive change. We are proud to be part of a campaign that promotes progress and empowers women to advance without compromise."
Real Impact on Communities
The real impact of the Wiramudi Grab program can be seen through the testimonials of its drivers. A single mother from Bali shared how daily access to Grab's electric bicycles allowed her to focus on earning without worrying about vehicle costs. Similarly, a driver from Makassar expressed that his position with Grab enabled him to support his family after his wife suffered a stroke. These stories illustrate the significant impact of the program in empowering women and uplifting their communities.
Safety Measures and Support
Grab's commitment to supporting its women driver-partners extends beyond financial assistance. The company offers comprehensive safety features to ensure their security while driving, including a Women Passenger Preferred option that allows female drivers to express a preference for being matched with female passengers in the app. Grab also provides training, safety guidelines, and vehicle service discounts through various programs aimed at supporting their female partners.
As Rivana Mezaya, Director of Digital and Sustainability at Grab Indonesia, remarked, "At Grab, the foundation of our mission is to provide economic empowerment, especially to disadvantaged communities like women and individuals with disabilities. Through our collaboration with the Vantage Foundation, we've been able to eliminate key barriers and provide capital, creating income opportunities for women and their families. Together, we are fostering an inclusive community where women can thrive both at home and at work."

The Wiramudi Grab program, available across 18 cities in Indonesia, aims to help women gain income as Grab partners while facilitating their growth on the Grab platform.
