New Flood-Resistant Storage Solution from Jay Chemical
In a bid to address the growing concern surrounding the preservation of valuable vintage and luxury items amid escalating flood risks across Japan,
Jay Chemical Corporation, located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, has unveiled its latest product: the
ProGuard Keeper Half. This high-performance storage pouch, measuring 360mm x 430mm, employs the internationally patented three-layer film technology known as
ProGuard®, engineered specifically to safeguard clothing and small accessories from moisture, pests, and other environmental threats.
A Background on the Need for Protection
The impetus for launching the
ProGuard Keeper Half stems from an evolving consumer demand for long-term storage solutions for not just traditional Japanese attire but also an array of personal, luxurious belongings. The company’s established product, the
Kimonokeeper®, has sold over 3 million units, illustrating its popularity as a moisture and pest-resistant garment protector. Recently, customers have expressed a desire for solutions that can extend beyond kimonos to include cherished clothes, vintage pieces, and unique collections like
oshi-katsu merchandise.
As the awareness of the need for such protection broadens, so too do the materials and items demanding preservation. From delicate silk and cashmere to high-end coats, leather goods, sneakers, and irreplaceable memorabilia, Jay Chemical has responded with a compact size designed for easy storage in closets and chests.
Launched Amid Increasing Flood Risks
As of September 2026, localized heavy rains and flooding pose significant challenges across the nation. Many households suffer from water damage during flood events, particularly affecting clothing and valuables stored in wardrobes and closets. Instances of damage during flooding, as experienced by numerous families, necessitate protective solutions for valuable belongings.
The
ProGuard® film technology has previously demonstrated its efficacy during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, where it protected delicate garments such as kimonos from moisture and muddy water when submerged in flooding. The innovative design employs a non-permeable three-layer film combined with a high-density double zipper, effectively blocking oxygen and moisture to safeguard items inside. With excellent waterproofing, moisture control, and protection against bacterial growth, this product serves as a vital shield during flood emergencies.
Product Features and Availability
The
ProGuard Keeper Half is tailored for items including small traditional accessories, wool, cashmere, silk, leather goods, shoes, photography, and more, particularly beloved
oshi-katsu items (like plush toys, badges, and limited clothing). With a suggested retail price of 1,600 yen (excluding tax), it's an ideal solution for casual preservation in small spaces.
In addition to this, the already available
ProGuard Keeper (size: 720mm x 430mm) doubles that capacity, accommodating bigger items such as obis, yukatas, and large clothing pieces like coats, sweaters, and dresses, priced at 3,100 yen (excluding tax).
