Grand Opening of Black Thunder's First Factory Tour Experience: The Wakuzaku Factory

Black Thunder Opens Its First Factory Tour Facility

In a thrilling development for chocolate enthusiasts, Yuraku Seika Co., Ltd. has opened its first factory tour facility, the Wakuzaku Factory, on May 27th. This exciting venture celebrates the 30th anniversary of the iconic chocolate snack, Black Thunder, widely beloved by fans across Japan.

Since its inception in 1994 in Toyohashi, Black Thunder has become a household name, cherished for its unique texture and rich flavors. The opening of the Wakuzaku Factory not only marks a significant milestone for the brand but is also a response to the numerous requests from fans eager to learn more about the production process behind this delectable treat.

Background and Purpose Behind the Wakuzaku Factory

As we celebrate 30 years of Black Thunder, the aim of the Wakuzaku Factory is to deepen the connection between the product and its consumers. While the manufacturing process has been featured on various television shows, there has never been a public access point for fans to witness how their favorite chocolate is made. The new facility includes a viewing corridor that allows visitors to closely observe the production process and experience the signature crunchiness of Black Thunder firsthand.

The name Wakuzaku, which combines the ideas of excitement and the crispy texture that defines Black Thunder, resonates strongly with the brand’s philosophy. A total of 129 suggestions were submitted during an internal naming contest, demonstrating the enthusiasm and creativity of the company’s team.

Highlights of the Wakuzaku Factory

1. Super Black Thunder Exhibit

Upon entering the Wakuzaku Factory, visitors are greeted with a Super Black Thunder—a colossal version of the classic chocolate bar that towers over 3 meters high! This impressive display, which is more than 300 times the size of a regular Black Thunder, vividly illustrates the crunchy texture with its detailed biscuit surface. Moreover, there are designated face-hole sections for fun photo opportunities, allowing guests to snap memorable pictures with the world’s largest Black Thunder.

2. Interactive Projection Mapping Experience

In addition to visual displays, visitors can engage in a unique projection mapping experience that simulates being part of a Black Thunder creation. Surrounded by captivating visuals of the production process, guests will gain a better understanding of the craftsmanship that goes into making their favorite chocolate snack.

3. Factory Tour Path

The factory tour path extends approximately 71.5 meters alongside the production line, featuring 14 windows where guests can observe the manufacturing process up close. Interactive elements, including quizzes and displays about Black Thunder’s history and secrets, make the experience both entertaining and educational. The Wakuzaku Factory consists of nine designated areas, each elaborating on different aspects of the production process and the secrets behind its irresistible crunchiness.

Additionally, the factory showcases the Smile Cacao Project, an initiative addressing child labor issues in cocoa production. This project serves as a catalyst for discussions about SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), encouraging visitors to reflect on the impact of their chocolate consumption.

4. Stamping Activity

The factory tour includes a fun stamping activity with six stations across the path. Collecting stamps will reveal a hidden illustration, which visitors can take home as a unique souvenir of their visit. Note that prior reservation is required to access the factory tour corridor.

5. The Wakuzaku Shop

Alongside the factory, the direct sales store has also undergone a transformation, now known as the Wakuzaku Shop. Here, fans can find a wide variety of Black Thunder products, including special limited edition items like the Black Thunder Car Can, Mini Bucket with Bars, and Cup Ice Cream exclusively available at this location. The beloved “fill your own Black Thunder” game has also been updated, in which customers can try to pack as much as possible in a bag under a time limit.
