Delectrik Systems Sets a New Milestone in India's Energy Sector
Delectrik Systems is making a significant stride in India's energy landscape with the deployment of its first industrial-scale vanadium redox flow battery project. This initiative, which will have a capacity of 100 MWh, marks a pivotal moment not only for the company but also for India as it aims to enhance its renewable energy infrastructure. Set to be implemented in 2027 at the Khavda Solar Park, this facility is projected to become the largest renewable energy site globally by 2029, boasting a capacity of 30 GW.
The project comes in collaboration with Bondada Engineering Limited, a rapidly growing provider of infrastructure solutions, and was awarded by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, which is India’s largest integrated power generating company with over 90 GW of installed capacity. NTPC aims to increase its total capacity to 149 GW by 2032, with 60 GW of this coming from renewable sources.
The installation will utilize Delectrik's non-encapsulated flow battery architecture, specifically designed for large-scale commercial, industrial, and utility applications. Dr. Vishal Mittal, the founder and CEO of Delectrik, emphasizes the groundbreaking nature of this project, stating, “This is not just a milestone for our company; it’s a landmark for the entire nation. It is poised to be India’s first utility-scale energy storage system that operates without lithium.”
Dr. Mittal further highlighted the project’s significance, mentioning that it is fully designed and manufactured within India, thus showcasing local capabilities in energy storage technology. He underlines the company’s ambition to amass a portfolio of at least 1 GWh of flow battery capacities over the next 12 months in regions including India, Australia, ASEAN, Africa, and others.
To strengthen its operations, Delectrik has established two wholly-owned subsidiaries, Delectrik Resources Pvt Ltd (DRPL) and Delectrik Esaas Pvt Ltd (DEPL). DRPL is stepping into the upstream business of producing vanadium oxide, which will feed into the battery manufacturing process, while DEPL is focused on offering energy storage as a service to commercial and industrial clients, including data centers.
