Celebrating a Decade of MOVE FES: A Journey of ALS Awareness and Technology

MOVE FES. 2026: A Musical Journey of Hope and Innovation

The MOVE FES. 2026, organized by the non-profit organization WITH ALS, is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary on June 20, 2026, at the EX Theater Roppongi in Minato, Tokyo. This unique music festival, aimed at raising awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), will coincide with the day before World ALS Day.

To kick off the preparations, crowdfunding started on December 4, 2024, aiming to gather support for this impactful event.

A Decade of Transformation

Since its inception in 2016, MOVE FES has stood as a beacon of hope and creativity for individuals living with ALS. The festival was conceived and directed by Masaya Muto, a creator and artist who lives with ALS. Over the years, MOVE FES has presented innovative performances that blend music with cutting-edge technology including VJing, fashion shows, robotics, brain-wave interfaces, XR art, and more. This experimentation encourages a transformative perspective from “can’t do” to “can do.”

For its 10th anniversary, the theme “THANKS × RESPECT: A Decade of Gratitude and Honor” has been chosen, emphasizing appreciation for all supporters and a commitment to new creative endeavors.

Innovative Technology at MOVE FES. 2026

At the upcoming festival, the latest cross-lingual voice synthesis technology will be showcased, enabling Masaya Muto to recreate his voice from about ten years ago. Using minimal audio clips extracted from past recordings, the reconstructed voice holds significant emotional value for Muto, his family, and supporters. This technology not only revives his past ability to speak but embodies the hope of reconnecting with their loved ones.

A Fusion of Technology and Art

MOVE FES. 2026 will feature an extraordinary lineup that includes EYE VDJ MASA’s performances controlled by eye movements, live segments from supporting artists, and collaborative XR art engagements. Additionally, the festival will introduce a pop-up store operated by telepresence robots and an engaging e-sport experience that uses electromyography signals to control drones. Participants can enjoy these experiences from the comfort of their homes through online streaming and in the virtual metaverse—creating a truly
