Greentown Labs Welcomes Georgina Campbell Flatter as New CEO
On February 3, 2025, Greentown Labs, a pioneering nonprofit focused on climatetech innovation, announced the appointment of Georgina Campbell Flatter as its new Chief Executive Officer. This change comes on the heels of a successful $4 million funding round and the formation of a new Board of Directors. Flatter's extensive background in nonprofit leadership, coupled with her entrepreneurial experience in the climate and energy sectors, positions her uniquely to spearhead Greentown Labs into its next phase.
A Leader with Proven Impact
Flatter previously served as Co-founder and Executive Director of TomorrowNow.org, an innovative nonprofit that connects weather and climate technologies with communities vulnerable to climate change. Her leadership there saw the organization secure millions in funding from significant partners like the Gates Foundation, which enabled it to deliver advanced climate solutions to over five million farmers in Africa weekly.
At Greentown Labs, she will collaborate with Kevin Dutt, the current Interim CEO, ensuring a seamless transition as she takes on her new responsibilities. Flatter will also retain her position on Greentown's Board of Directors.
Bobby Tudor, Chair of the Board of Directors, expressed optimism about Flatter's appointment: “We are fortunate to have her at the helm of Greentown Labs. Her unique combination of climate expertise and leadership in the nonprofit sector is rare and greatly needed.” This sentiment was echoed by other board members who highlighted her impressive background with organizations like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where Flatter dedicated over a decade to promoting social impact and innovation.
Commitment to Climate Solutions
Flatter's responsibilities will extend beyond managing operations; she aims to foster collaboration within the climatetech ecosystem. “We are at a pivotal moment in the energy transition,” Flatter stated. “Greentown Labs embodies innovation and entrepreneurship designed to tackle the urgent challenges of climate change. I am thrilled to nurture this collaborative spirit and empower our community of entrepreneurs.”
Greentown Labs, which began as an initiative within MIT in 2011, has grown to become North America's largest climatetech startup incubator, currently housing over 200 startups. With Flatter's leadership, the aim is to welcome its 600th member company shortly. Flatter’s motivation to support climate and energy innovation aligns perfectly with the incubator's mission of nurturing talent and driving sustainable change.
Vision for the Future
With her academic credentials, including a Master of Engineering from the University of Oxford and an SM in Technology and Policy from MIT, Flatter is well-equipped for her role. She has also actively engaged in her local communities, advocating for women and youth empowerment within the tech sector. Her focus is to transform how new technologies can benefit society and the environment.
Greentown will also host its first EnergyBar networking event of 2025 at its Boston headquarters on February 6, followed by its annual CERAWeek Transition on Tap event in Houston on March 13, where Flatter is expected to address attendees, sharing her vision for the incubator's future.
As a critical player in the climatetech landscape, Greentown Labs epitomizes the fusion of entrepreneurship and global climate responsibility, positioning itself as a leader in delivering innovative solutions for a sustainable future. Flatter's arrival signals a new era where big changes are anticipated, driven by a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
