Establishment of the MIDORI Consortium
On June 4, 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan will hold the inaugural meeting of the "MIDORI Consortium for Overseas Development of Decarbonization Technologies". This initiative aims to bolster the global deployment of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction technologies in the agricultural, forestry, and fishery sectors, in line with the country's commitment ahead of the upcoming COP30 conference in November.
Background of the MIDORI Consortium
In May of this year, the Japanese government prepared a framework known as the "Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries GHG Reduction Technologies Overseas Development Package" (commonly known as MIDORI∞INFINITY). This package is intended to promote both food security and the overseas development of GHG reduction technologies. The MIDORI Consortium will act as a practical tool for connecting Japanese companies with international partners, advancing decarbonization projects that could also harness bilateral credit mechanisms (like the JCM).
The consortium marks the evolution of the previous "Japan-ASEAN Green Decarbonization Consortium," with a new focus that extends beyond the Asian monsoon regions to a global context.
