Aitech Wins $63 Million Contract with Hindustan Aeronautics

This deal is aimed at supplying vital avionics computer solutions for the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) program in India. Rather than providing a ready-made commercial product, Aitech has collaborated closely with HAL engineers to customize a solution based on CompactPCI, specifically designed for mission visualization and processing in helicopters.

As HAL developed its mission and flight software, Aitech has been on hand to provide practical technical support, featuring on-site collaboration, and continuous manufacturing assistance for flight test and certification activities. The solidity of the renewed contract stems not only from Aitech's reliable technology but also from the long-standing collaboration between the two companies.

The LCH avionics suite delivered by HAL includes a mission computer and an automatic flight control computer, representing one of India's most advanced helicopter electronics programs to date. The systems are typically based on dual-redundant SBC architectures, real-time processing capabilities, and robust data management to support mission visualization, flight control, and situational awareness in demanding operational environments.

HAL's decision to partner with Aitech was largely influenced by several key factors:

1. Proven Experience: The DMC architecture is grounded in high-reliability computing, advanced graphics processing, and deterministic connectivity, which are standout features in Aitech’s avionics portfolio.

2. Long-term Maintenance Commitment: Unlike many suppliers, Aitech has demonstrated the ability to maintain the same qualified board designs well beyond typical lifecycle cycles, effectively avoiding disruptive technology migrations midway through projects.

3. Existing Knowledge and Design Investment: The avionics computer boards are deeply integrated into the helicopter design. Replacing them would necessitate a complete redesign and requalification cycle that could span several years.

4. Ongoing Technical Support: From the initial characterization through to certification and authorization, Aitech's engineers have engaged directly with HAL on integration, performance, and qualification.
