SriLankan Cargo Strengthens Digital Presence with Freightos
In a significant move to enhance its market position, SriLankan Cargo, the air freight division of SriLankan Airlines, has recently partnered with Freightos, the leading digital platform for booking and payments in the global freight industry. This collaboration aims to facilitate online air cargo bookings and payments through WebCargo, set to launch later in the quarter, thereby expanding the reach of SriLankan Cargo into South Asian markets.
The partnership is pivotal as Freightos, listed under NASDAQ as CRGO, continues to broaden its footprint across South Asia, with the integration set to unlock digital access to Colombo—an increasingly important transshipment hub that connects the Indian subcontinent to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. This alliance will empower over 10,000 freight forwarding offices utilizing WebCargo globally to seamlessly access, quote, book, and settle payments for SriLankan Cargo's air freight capacity via a single, comprehensive platform.
SriLankan Cargo boasts an extensive network that includes 32 online destinations in 21 countries, alongside partnerships that extend their reach to over 200 international locations. The service particularly emphasizes its strong capacity to India and the Gulf region, thus tapping into key trade routes and enhancing connectivity across pivotal lanes in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Zvi Schreiber, CEO of Freightos, commented,
"SriLankan Cargo brings high-quality regional capacity into our digital network at a time when agility is key. By integrating their rates and capacity, forwarders gain instant and enhanced access to critical South Asian trade lanes, including Colombo and India."
Additionally, the integration democratizes access to air freight for non-IATA forwarders throughout Asia. Through WebCargo Pay, these forwarders can now utilize SriLankan Cargo's services without the need for airline credit lines or bank guarantees, addressing long-standing barriers faced by small to medium-sized forwarders in emerging markets.
Chaminda Perera, Head of Cargo at SriLankan Airlines, articulated the significance of this partnership, stating,
"By joining Freightos' WebCargo platform, we're not just digitalizing our booking process—we're expanding our reach to thousands of new potential customers. The integration with Freightos' rate management and procurement tools ensures our services are visible at the critical decision-making stage of the freight buying process."
In addition to facilitating immediate capacity and booking options, SriLankan Cargo plans to utilize WebCargo's interlining capabilities. This will enhance its collaboration with major carriers such as Qatar Airways, Emirates SkyCargo, Turkish Airlines, and Etihad Cargo. The aim is to allow forwarders to conveniently book complex multi-carrier routes while aiding partner airlines in optimizing their load factors.
To get started with booking SriLankan Cargo, freight forwarders can register for free on the Freightos platform.
