Exciting Opening of Funeshiru: A New Maritime Experience Museum in Osaka

Funeshiru: A New Maritime Museum Experience

On July 19, 2025, Osaka welcomes the Funeshiru, an unprecedented maritime experience museum created by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL). This immersive space is designed for visitors to see, touch, and play, providing an interactive glimpse into the world of shipping and maritime life.

Opening Ceremony

Prior to the grand opening, on July 18, an opening ceremony was held, attended by dignitaries and local stakeholders. Following the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to explore some of the museum's exhibits during a preview event. To celebrate the opening, the museum will distribute original fans to all attendees on opening day, making it a perfect opportunity for families and curious visitors to explore.

Unique Features of Funeshiru

Funeshiru boasts state-of-the-art installations including the world's first 310-degree LED screen surrounded by an authentic ship navigation simulator. This simulator allows guests to take command of a ship in a virtual setting, enhancing their connection with maritime operations. The museum also features an impressive 30-meter wide theater displaying various colossal ships, along with interactive art that brings visitors' drawings of ships to life on the walls. Designed with children and families in mind, Funeshiru aims to educate the public on the critical role ships play in our lives, blending fun and learning in a unique environment.

Adjacent Activities

Additionally, the museum is conveniently located next to the Sunflower Ferry Terminal, where plans for ferry tours are set to commence in August 2025. Families can enjoy a variety of events and exhibitions geared towards providing educational experiences that highlight maritime careers and the significance of shipping in daily life. Alongside the exhibits, guests can indulge in the museum café, inspired by a global harbor theme, which serves a range of dishes, drinks, and desserts reflecting the journey of food across seas.

Original Merchandise

Funeshiru will offer original merchandise so visitors can take home a piece of their experience. From t-shirts displaying visitors' own ship drawings to educational materials, the goal is to ensure that the lessons learned at the museum continue beyond the visit. This initiative not only promotes MOL's fan base but also emphasizes maritime education and environmental awareness.
