AI Data's Forum on Content Industry IP Strategies
On March 11, AI Data Corporation, a Tokyo-based company specializing in AI solutions and data utilization, held an informative event titled "AI Agent x AX Forum - Content". This forum was designed to discuss the strategic utilization of AI and digital transformation (DX) within Japan's content industry, classified as one of the country's 17 key sectors for economic growth by the government.
Session Highlights
Session 1: Transforming Japanese IP into a National Asset
The first session featured Takahito Sasaki, the representative of AOS Group, who presented the "AI Kōmei on IDX x Tokkyo.Ai Two-Layer Strategy". He highlighted the current challenge facing Japan's content industry, which, while rich in intellectual property (IP) creation capabilities, often struggles with revenue maximization. Despite generating successful titles, the industry sees a fragmentation between production, profit, data, and intellectual property, leading to inadequate value recovery. Sasaki proposed a two-layer approach combining AI Kōmei and Tokkyo.Ai to effectively classify and maximize IP value, thus transforming IP into a “national asset”. He stressed the need for the industry to pivot from reliance on instinct and experience to a data-driven intelligence model.
Session 2: Location-Based VR Innovations
Next, Naoki Ogawa, CEO of Dynamo Entertainment, shared insights into location-based VR experiences. He explained that VR is not just about integrating technology but requires careful experience design, operational guidelines, and a strong user journey to maximize visitor immersion. He emphasized the importance of merging real and virtual spaces to create new value, while discussing the potential for profitability in entertainment through comprehensive experiences.
Session 3: Implementing an IP Revenue Maximizing OS
Daisuke Shida, CTO of AI Data Corporation, discussed a practical model for optimizing IP revenues using "AI ContentsPro on IDX". By focusing on efficiency in production and maximizing licensing revenues, he explained the dual approach of achieving both partial and overall optimizations. He urged a shift from the traditional model of "creating IP" to one focusing on "operating IP" effectively, aided by AI-driven analytics and data utilization.
Session 4: The Power of Gamification in Entertainment
Gakushi Yaguchi of Sega XD’s Experience Design Department addressed the profound impact entertainment has on emotional engagement. He explored gamification strategies, noting that applying game mechanics to various sectors could facilitate user behavior changes and sustained engagement. He stressed that experiential design is crucial for creating new value in the content industry beyond mere entertainment.
Session 5: Current State of Kodansha’s Manga IP Business
Hidekazu Iwakiri, Deputy General Manager of the IP Business Department at Kodansha, provided an overview of their manga IP’s status. He highlighted efforts in licensing and media mix strategies to enhance IP value and discussed the implications of generative AI on IP businesses. He underscored the need for sustainable business models that prioritize rights management and value protection, reflecting on real-world decision-making challenges and the future direction of IP strategies.
Session 6: The Role of AI in Anime Production
Ryo Ono, CEO of DLE, expressed his viewpoint on AI's role in animation, asserting that human sensitivity is irreplaceable in core creative processes. He maintained that AI is not necessary at this stage but holds potential for improving efficiencies in production processes. Shifting the discourse towards identifying suitable areas for AI is critical for creative industries.
Closing Summit
The forum concluded with a special session where all speakers congregated to discuss the broader implications of AI application, IP strategies, and business models in the content industry. Attendees engaged in dynamic conversations around maximizing IP value, integrating data and intellectual property, and identifying the correct applications for AI.
As a follow-up, AI Data Corporation announced the upcoming "AI Agent x AX Forum - Materials'' on April 17, focused on the materials industry, encouraging participation from executives and professionals in the field.
