AI Storm and ZO MOTORS Collaboration to Transform Commercial EV Trucking in Japan

AI Storm and ZO MOTORS: A New Era in Commercial EV Trucks

AI Storm, known prior as Jecceed Co., Ltd., has recently signed an agency agreement with ZO MOTORS, a fabless manufacturer of new energy commercial vehicles, to address the pressing challenges in Japan's logistics industry. Amid soaring fuel prices and the urgent need for decarbonization, this partnership marks a strategic move towards stabilizing the operations of transport companies and achieving substantial growth.

The Current State of Logistics in Japan

Japan's logistics sector is currently facing a critical structural crisis. According to estimates from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, by 2030, there could be a 34% shortfall in the transport capacity of commercial trucks. The number of bankruptcies in the road freight transportation industry is nearing levels last seen during the global financial crisis. As small and medium-sized enterprises struggle to cover their vehicle procurement costs, many are opting to close shop, quietly diminishing the nation’s logistics infrastructure that supports daily life.

Moreover, escalating fuel prices due to recent international geopolitical tensions are gradually eroding the profits of transport operators. Adding to this burden is the new responsibility of striving for carbon neutrality by 2050, which imposes dual pressures of cost and environmental compliance on the entire industry.

Signing the Agency Agreement with ZO MOTORS

In July 2023, AI Storm entered into an agreement with ZO MOTORS, a company established for manufacturing new energy commercial vehicles. ZO MOTORS advocates that "EVs are not special;" this ideology resonates deeply with AI Storm’s goal of making EV trucks a standard procurement choice rather than a special investment for transport operators.

The EV truck model offered, named "ZM6," features a driving range of 180 km on a single charge (WLTP/UN-R154) and a battery capacity of 81.14 kWh. It comes equipped with advanced safety features that support secure driving, designed for ease of use similar to conventional engine vehicles. Through an extensive network with JARWA (Japan Automobile Body Repair Association), AI Storm can swiftly connect clients with nearby partner factories capable of servicing EV trucks, supplemented by 24/7 roadside assistance, ensuring continued reliability post-acquisition.

Integration with the Mobility Initiative Fund

One of the barriers to EV adoption for financially constrained small and medium-sized transport companies remains the initial costs, even with subsidies. Recognizing this, AI Storm introduces the Mobility Initiative Fund, offering an innovative option for acquiring EV trucks.

Under this agency agreement, ZM6 trucks will be eligible under this fund. This arrangement allows the fund to own the vehicles while operators can utilize them in a lease format, combining governmental subsidies. This model provides companies without sufficient capital an opportunity to partake in the electrification transition without requiring large upfront investments. The blend of finance and electrification presents unique solutions to structural challenges like labor shortages and decarbonization needs.

This multifaceted approach of "fund × EV × subsidy" aims to normalize the electrification of commercial vehicles in daily operations.

Future Outlook

The Mobility Initiative Fund has consistently achieved a 100% closure rate from its first to seventh series. Each consecutive round has experienced expanded scales, with cumulative fundraising exceeding 4 billion yen and the number of operational units surpassing 300. These trucks directly correspond to the persistent challenges faced by transport operators.

The formal commencement of EV truck sales paves the way for AI Storm to push towards the ambitious target of 1,000 units by the end of the fiscal year 2026. To safeguard Japan's logistics sector amidst labor shortages, soaring fuel costs, and the imperative for decarbonization, AI Storm is determined to accelerate the Mobility Initiative Fund, steadfastly aiming for a market capitalization of 50 billion yen.
