Emirates Logistics Expands into Kenya
Emirates Logistics, a prominent player in supply chain and logistics within the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, is making headlines with its ambitious expansion into Kenya. The company plans to establish a cutting-edge facility in Tatu City, which is recognized as Africa's leading new urban development. Located just a short 30-minute drive from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, this new facility aims to bolster the support for Emirates Logistics' renowned clientele in sub-Saharan Africa.
In an official announcement, Steven van der Vliet, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Logistics, expressed pride in the company's growth in Kenya. He indicated that the new facility is part of a broader strategy to enhance logistics services in key growth markets. "This strategic facility will help us offer flexible and tailored logistics solutions to both our current and prospective clients," he remarked.
Construction of the new plant is set to begin within the year, continuing the company's global expansion into 15 countries. The development aims to further establish Emirates Logistics' international presence, reinforcing its network of operations that includes warehouses, offices, and transport fleets across UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Malaysia.
George Kapanadze, Group CFO of Rendeavour, the owner and developer of Tatu City, welcomed Emirates Logistics, highlighting the supportive business environment expected to foster the company’s growth. Tatu City, being a mixed-use special economic zone, focuses on attracting foreign direct investments through its robust infrastructure and range of services tailored for global enterprises. These services include not only logistics but also residential accommodations, retail spaces, educational institutions, parks, and recreational facilities.
With an impressive track record in urban development, Rendeavour establishes secure environments conducive to both personal and business growth, with projects exceeding $5 billion across the continent. In countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rendeavour is responsible for creating communities that host over 200 businesses and provide essential amenities for thousands of residents and students.
The Tatu City project in Kenya is a prime example, hosting over 100 businesses, including notable names such as Heineken, Cold Solutions, and NCBA. Companies that choose to operate in Tatu City benefit from various incentives, including a significantly reduced corporate tax rate of 10% for the initial ten years, as compared to the standard rate of 30%. Further financial benefits include exemptions from VAT on goods and services, customs duties, and stamp duties, making it an attractive destination for businesses looking to expand in the region.
Emirates Logistics' entry into Tatu City is poised to mark a new chapter for the logistics sector in Kenya, offering enhanced services that are expected to cater to the increasing demands of a dynamic market. As the establishment of the new logistics facility progresses, the anticipation grows for the positive economic impact it will bring to both the local and regional markets, fostering growth and development in East Africa.
