Visa and Global Fashion Agenda Empower Emerging Designers

In a collaborative effort to foster innovation within the fashion industry, Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) and Visa have launched an initiative dubbed Visa Young Creators: Recycle the Runway. This program seeks to celebrate and empower emerging designers by encouraging them to explore circular fashion concepts and sustainable practices.

The initiative operates under the premise that fashion can be rethought through innovative design, focusing on reducing waste and promoting regenerative practices. The ultimate goal is to support a transition towards a circular economy, one where fashion is not only created but also recycled, reused, and upcycled.

What the Program Offers

The Recycle the Runway program stands out as a beacon for aspiring fashion entrepreneurs. An expert panel comprising prominent figures from the fashion industry will review applications, with final selections being made alongside the program's ambassador, Gemma Styles, a renowned author and podcaster. The program aims to not only spotlight the creativity of its participants but also to provide tangible support through financial backing and mentorship.

In total, 15 designers will be recognized in this program. Of these, ten winners will divide a prize pool of EUR 50,000, allowing them to invest substantially in their creative ventures. Additionally, four participants will each receive EUR 10,000 and gain access to the prestigious Global Fashion Summit Copenhagen Edition 2026. Each of these winners will also be paired with industry leaders to co-create products along with receiving expert mentorship and promotional opportunities designed to elevate their brands and recognition in the industry.

The program will highlight one Grand Prize Winner, who will be awarded EUR 20,000 in addition to the full suite of benefits provided to the four runners-up. It's an exemplary model of how targeted financial support and mentoring can empower the next generation of designers.

The jury consists of leading experts in the fashion industry, including individuals like Laura Ingham, deputy director at Vogue, and Kirsty Keoghan, general manager for European fashion at eBay, among others. Their role is to ensure that the selection process is rigorous and that the most promising candidates are chosen to participate in this transformative program.

The Recycle the Runway program is geared toward creators within various sectors of the fashion industry, including fashion upcycling, textiles, footwear, and accessories. To be eligible, applicants must have been in business for at least a year and should operate primarily within Europe, focusing on circular practices such as reselling, renting, or repairing.
