Colt DCS Launches Investment in Paris with New Data Centres to Bolster Digital Economy

Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a frontrunner in hyperscale and enterprise data centre solutions, has made headlines by breaking ground on the first of five new data centres in Paris. This initiative marks the commencement of a significant €2.3 billion investment aimed at enhancing France's digital economy. Over the next several years, Colt DCS plans to complete these facilities, which are essential for supporting the rapid growth of digital services across France and Europe.

The first facility, called Colt Paris 2, is part of a broader plan that includes two additional data centres scheduled for construction at a strategically located site in Villebon-sur-Yvette, southwest of Paris. Along with two more data centres planned in nearby Les Ulis, these developments signify a robust commitment to meeting increasing demands for cloud computing and AI capabilities. Collectively, these five new data centres will increase Colt DCS's total capacity in France to an impressive 170MW by 2031.

Designed with sustainability in mind, each data centre will adhere to the Colt DCS Global Reference Design (GRD), which emphasizes low embodied carbon construction principles. This approach not only showcases Colt DCS's dedication to environmental responsibility but also reinforces its position as a leader in the data centre sector. The planned facilities are set to cater to a diverse range of performance requirements, serving large enterprises and supporting vital applications in traditional cloud and artificial intelligence platforms.

Notably, Colt Paris 2 will employ a hybrid cooling strategy that combines traditional air cooling with innovative liquid-to-chip technology, designed specifically to manage the high-density workloads typical of AI applications. Impressively, this state-of-the-art facility will operate without generating any water waste and will even recover excess heat for use in the local community. Furthermore, Colt DCS has secured 100% renewable power agreements that will make this AI-ready data centre capable of delivering 40MW of power. This capacity allows for over 100kW of IT power per cabinet, ensuring high performance.

Colt DCS CEO, Niclas Sanfridsson, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Breaking ground at Colt Paris 2 is an exciting next step in our long-term commitment to France and its thriving digital economy. This project is not only about implementing our innovative design; it demonstrates our dedication to sustainable growth and innovation. By investing in renewable energy and supporting the local community through waste heat reuse, we are positioning ourselves to meet the growing demand for cloud and AI services while setting new standards for environmental stewardship."

The development of Colt Paris 2 will also create significant economic benefits. Approximately 300 jobs are projected during construction, with over 100 new positions anticipated once the facility becomes operational. Moreover, Colt DCS is committed to sourcing building materials and equipment from within Europe, which supports the local economy and underscores its position as a trusted partner in the data centre sector.

Overall, Colt DCS is poised to support the acceleration of digital services across Europe while adhering to a strategic vision centered around sustainability and social responsibility. The new facilities will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of data processing and energy utilization in France, setting a benchmark for the industry.

In addition to improving facilities, Colt DCS continually seeks to expand its operational model, having already established 13 data centres globally, with 18 more in development across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. This expansion strategy allows them to effectively plan for growth while providing secure, resilient infrastructures to meet evolving customer needs. Their overarching commitment to sustainability goes hand-in-hand with their operational goals, reflecting a comprehensive strategy designed for long-term success and minimal environmental impact.

As Colt DCS embarks on this ambitious project, its contributions will not only enhance data processing capabilities but will also ensure that sustainable practices are at the forefront of industry advancements, ultimately benefiting both the environment and local communities in which they operate.
