Celebrating Innovation and Achievement: The 10th Huawei ICT Competition

The Huawei ICT Competition has reached a significant milestone with its 10th edition, concluding with a grand awards ceremony in Shenzhen, China. This year, an astonishing number of 220,000 participants from more than 2,000 institutions across over 100 countries took part, making it the largest competition to date in its history.

During the ceremony, Ritchie (Honghua) Peng, the President of Huawei's ICT Strategy and Development Department, emphasized the competition's important role in driving sustainable social and environmental development through technology. He highlighted how the competition encourages innovation and learning through competition, illustrating the potential of these talented participants in facing real-world challenges.

Each team showcased their skills in various disciplines, including practical networking, cloud technologies, and programming. Notably, teams from Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, and other countries excelled, with 18 outstanding teams receiving top honors across various competition tracks. The winners were selected based on their performances in national and regional rounds leading up to the global finale.

Special Recognition and Awards

Throughout the event, several unique awards were granted, including the Women in Tech Award, which celebrated all-female teams from Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kenya, China, and Bahrain. Additionally, the Green Development Award was presented to teams from Ghana and China for their outstanding contributions toward sustainability. Special Fast Pass admissions were awarded to ten students from China, granting them entry into Huawei's Future Business Leader Track.

The ceremony also honored exceptional instructors with the Most Valuable Instructor Award, recognizing 16 educators from nine countries, including Pakistan, China, and Brazil, who played a vital role in mentoring their students through this global competition.

Emphasizing AI in Future Competitions

A major announcement was also made concerning the introduction of a new category for the upcoming edition of the competition - the Ascend AI Operator Development Track. Aimed at nurturing young developers, this category is designed to enable participants to engage with advanced industrial technologies for solving practical challenges, reflecting the growing importance of artificial intelligence in today’s society.

Dr. Shafika Isaacs, acting director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, praised the collaboration between UNESCO and Huawei. She underscored the importance of partnerships in developing AI capabilities across regions and emphasized the joint initiatives that aim to prepare students for future-oriented careers.
