CHOSA Oncology Signs Deal with CLIA-Certified Lab for Platin-DRP® Development in the USA
CHOSA Oncology Collaborates with CLIA-Certified Lab for Platin-DRP®
In a groundbreaking step for oncology, CHOSA Oncology AB has secured a partnership with a CLIA-certified lab to further develop and validate its promising gene expression test, Platin-DRP®. This collaboration is aimed at bringing this crucial biomarker to the forefront of cancer treatment in the United States, with the first revenues expected as early as summer 2027, contingent upon successful validation.
What is Platin-DRP®?
The Platin-DRP® test is designed to predict patient response to platinum-based chemotherapy — specifically, cisplatin and carboplatin. These chemotherapy agents have long been integral to lung cancer treatment; however, their efficacy can vary significantly among patients, with some experiencing severe side effects without significant benefits. This test aims to identify those patients who are most likely to respond positively to therapy, thus enhancing personalized medicine approaches.
Significance of the CLIA-Certified Partner
Working with a CLIA-certified lab is vital as it aligns with the established regulatory framework that governs most diagnostic laboratories in the U.S. This partnership will enable CHOSA to navigate the complexities of the clinical landscape effectively, ensuring that Platin-DRP® adheres to stringent quality control standards throughout its development phase. As Peter Buhl Jensen, CEO of CHOSA, stated, securing this partnership marks a fundamental milestone in their commercial strategy, with an estimated market potential of over 250,000 Platin-DRP® tests annually in the U.S.
Clinical Validation and Future Prospects
The collaboration will build on clinical findings from the ETOP/EORTC SPLENDOUR study. In this analysis, 82 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were treated with either cisplatin or carboplatin. The results highlighted a significant correlation between elevated Platin-DRP® scores and improved progression-free survival, as well as overall survival. Patients in the high-score category reported a median overall survival of 16.9 months, compared to just 5.5 months for those in the low-score group.
Additionally, CHOSA is actively working on a retrospective study with Mount Sinai Hospital to investigate the efficacy of Platin-DRP® in patients undergoing platinum chemotherapy alongside PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy. Gene-expression analysis will assess individual Platin-DRP® scores and their correlation with treatment outcomes, with results expected in the first quarter of 2027. This ongoing research underscores CHOSA's commitment to advancing clinical evidence while establishing a robust laboratory framework for eventual commercial testing services.
The Road Ahead
The integration of Platin-DRP® into the clinical setting symbolizes a pivotal advancement in lung cancer treatment, particularly for a patient population that has been historically underserved due to the variability in chemotherapy responses. As the future of oncology continues to move toward more personalized treatment paradigms, CHOSA Oncology stands at the forefront, ready to offer physicians a powerful tool to make informed decisions that may significantly impact patient outcomes.
The journey of Platin-DRP® from concept to clinical application exemplifies the growing synergy between innovative research and practical applications in medicine. It heralds a new era in lung cancer therapy, where every patient has the potential to receive tailored treatments aimed at maximizing their chances of success. With the launch of Platin-DRP®, CHOSA is not just anticipating profits; it is aspiring to transform the treatment landscape for lung cancer patients nationwide.
