Okayama University Alumni Association Holds Significant Meeting to Foster Connections
On April 20, 2026, the Okayama University Alumni Association, known as "Okayama Daigaku Alumni," convened its first meeting of the year. Held at the Tottori-Okayama Shimbashi-kan in Tokyo, this gathering brought together passionate alumni from various faculties, supporting the university's ongoing transformation initiatives. The event was a platform for alumni from different disciplines to exchange information, invigorate their networks, and stay updated on the university's progression.
The meeting was led by Keiichi Konaga, the president of the Alumni Association and a graduate of the Faculty of Law. Alongside him participated Professor Yasutomo Nasu, the university president and a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine, along with 28 other attendees from diverse faculties and graduate schools. The gathering aimed to strengthen bonds among alumni while highlighting the significant changes being implemented at Okayama University.
As the meeting commenced, Shinjo Hasegawa, an alumni member practicing law, took the role of moderator. In his introductory remarks, he shared insights from Vice President Masahito Sato regarding the university's latest developments, referencing the public relations magazine "Ichou Namiki." The discussions included an overview of the recently revised mission, vision, values, and strategy (MVVS) of Okayama University. Furthermore, President Nasu expressed gratitude for ongoing support from alumni and elaborated extensively on the proposed adjustments to tuition fees for incoming students starting in 2027, which were disclosed at a reporters' conference in March.
Participants voiced their enthusiasm for the university's transformative journey, emphasizing the importance of carefully managing risks while solidifying Position as a distinctive research university capable of competing on a global scale. Following this, attendees engaged in detailed updates about their current activities and participated in lively discussions, marking an active exchange of ideas and experiences.
At the meeting's conclusion, President Konaga reiterated the commitment of the alumni association to support the university's ambitious changes under President Nasu's dynamic leadership. He underscored the importance of unity among alumni to bolster these initiatives and ensure Okayama University remains a beloved institution for all its graduates.
All alumni from Okayama University, regardless of their faculty or graduate school, are welcome to participate in these gatherings. The next meeting is scheduled for September 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in Tokyo. Additionally, the Tokyo alumni branch will hold its annual meeting on July 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at TKP Garden City Premium Kyobashi in Central Tokyo.
