Unconscious Bias Week Empowers Children to Embrace Their True Potential

Unconscious Bias Week: A Gateway to Self-Discovery for Children

Event Overview
From October 31 to November 6, 2023, Tokyo hosted the third annual Unconscious Bias Week at Kidzania Tokyo, aiming to empower children by promoting the idea of unrestricted choices free from gender bias. This initiative is part of a larger effort by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to address the unconscious beliefs many children and adults hold regarding gender roles and career preferences.

Breaking Down Gender Stereotypes
Research conducted in previous years unveiled that a significant number of students, parents, and teachers believe that certain professions are more suited to a particular gender. The event seeks to tackle these entrenched notions, especially as studies indicate that such biases are more prevalent among older students. By engaging younger audiences, the aim is to help them identify and challenge these unconscious biases early in life, thereby broadening their horizons.
