2025 FEI General Assembly in Hong Kong Marks Equestrian Milestones
2025 FEI General Assembly Concludes in Hong Kong
On November 7, 2025, the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) successfully held its General Assembly in Hong Kong, marking a significant occasion for equestrian sport. This prominent assembly was attended by 267 delegates across 73 national equestrian federations and 13 stakeholder groups, who gathered to discuss the future of equestrianism and make transformative decisions affecting the sport worldwide.
This year’s meeting, returning to Hong Kong after a 27-year hiatus, was supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club in partnership with the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong. The assembly kicked off with a welcome reception at Happy Valley Racecourse on November 5, where guests were treated to the lively atmosphere of horse racing and entertainment. During the reception, The Hon. Martin Liao, Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, expressed pride in hosting such an esteemed event. He highlighted the organization's commitment to nurturing equestrian sports at both grassroots and elite levels over the past 50 years, which includes supporting the Hong Kong equestrian team.
"The Club is also set to enhance its reputation with newly constructed state-of-the-art training facilities set to debut in Conghua, marking a pivotal moment in the sport’s evolution,” stated Liao.
The assembly proved pivotal, delivering a vital assessment of the global state of equestrian sport while providing comprehensive insights on future direction. Lester Huang, Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and President of the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, emphasized the opportunity to collaborate and advance equestrian sports within China and globally.
One of the primary highlights was the unveiling of the Digital Horse Passport, slated for phased implementation starting in 2026. This innovative system aims to revolutionize horse management by centralizing key data such as identification, health records, vaccination history, and travel documents onto a single platform. This initiative, developed by the FEI and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), seeks to enhance efficiency, bolster biosecurity, and streamline cross-border movement.
FEI Veterinary Director Göran Akerström described the Digital Horse Passport as a milestone for equestrianism, aiming to improve logistical management and animal welfare standards.
The assembly culminated in a glamorous awards gala, celebrating the remarkable contributions of individuals and teams in the global equestrian community. Notable attendees included Cheuk Wing-hing from the HKSAR Government and other prominent figures from the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
The prestigious FEI Inspire Award was won by the Shanghai Sports Development Foundation’s Beat as One – Stable Management Challenge, which focuses on redefining stable management and horse welfare education in China.
In summary, the 2025 FEI General Assembly not only reinforced Hong Kong’s importance as a prominent hub for equestrian sport in Asia but also provided a unique platform to foster international collaboration. As the sport continues to evolve, events like these highlight Hong Kong's crucial role in shaping the future of equestrianism on a global scale. The Hong Kong Jockey Club remains a pivotal organization within this landscape, having long supported major sports events and made significant investments to advance equestrian excellence.”,
