Adaptive Sports Connection Launches Innovative Wellness Lodge for All Abilities Community

Adaptive Sports Connection (ASC) has announced an exciting new initiative that promises to greatly enhance recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The forthcoming Adventure and Wellness Lodge, set in Columbus, Ohio, is anticipated to transform the landscape of adaptive sports and wellness in the region. This initiative emerges from the ASC's commitment to support veterans, children, and adults with disabilities, ensuring they have access to essential recreational and wellness experiences.

Scheduled for construction commencement in late summer 2025, this specialized facility will serve as a base for ASC's wide array of offerings, which include various sports and educational programs aimed at promoting health and community engagement. As Sharon Bucey, president and CEO of ASC, highlights, the lodge will play a significant role in improving the health and well-being of its visitors by fostering connections among adaptive athletes and the community.

The Adventure and Wellness Lodge is a key component of the ASC’s Power of Ability (POA) Initiative, which is designed to extend outdoor and recreational experiences to more individuals with disabilities in Ohio. The need for such facilities is not merely essential; it’s increasingly pressing. Chad Jester, the president of the Nationwide Foundation, emphasized this in his support of the project, noting the growing demand for services that cater to the needs of these individuals.

The lodge will encompass versatile indoor and outdoor areas, specially designed for community interactions, which will enhance social experiences among those who often find themselves on the margins of recreational activities. Key features will include a yoga and fitness space, offices for staff, and a gathering area for social and educational events. On top of all this, the lodge is set to have a warming pantry, capable restroom and locker facilities, as well as a lobby and café, creating a welcoming environment for everyone.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for May 21, 2025, symbolizing the start of a new chapter not just for ASC, but for the wider community in Ohio. Generous investments from various sponsors, including significant contributions from Nationwide's leaders and the AEP Foundation, have been crucial in transforming this vision into reality.

With its newly established space, ASC aims to deliver innovative programs that uplift mental and physical health, allowing not only athletes but their families and broader community to participate fully in recreational and educational experiences. Visionary leaders from both public and private sectors have come together to support this transformative project, ensuring that the resource addresses the pressing needs of the community.

As the community eagerly anticipates the opening of the Adventure and Wellness Lodge, it stands as a testament to what collaborative effort and a shared vision can accomplish. Aimed at breaking the barriers that often restrict participation in sports and outdoor activities, ASC’s new facility ensures that sports and recreational opportunities are accessible to everyone, fulfilling its mission to allow people of all abilities the freedom and joy that recreation brings. The lodge promises to uplift spirits and foster connections through sport, encapsulating the belief that every individual deserves the chance to experience the power of ability, no matter their physical or mental health challenges.
