AIMERA®: An All-in-One AI Camera Revolutionizing Quality Control
Rist Corporation, based in Kyoto, Japan, is proud to announce that its innovative all-in-one AI camera, AIMERA®, has been honored with the prestigious 2025 Good Design Award. This recognition, organized by the Japan Design Promotion Organization, highlights the product's groundbreaking design and its effectiveness in addressing specific corporate challenges through AI integration.
Unconventional Design, Enhanced Functionality
AIMERA® merges a camera, lens, lighting, and dedicated AI computer into a single unit. Previously, these components would have been installed separately, causing a complex setup that could hinder operational efficiency. The compact and smart design of AIMERA® minimizes disruption in production environments, ensuring aesthetics do not compromise functionality.
The design philosophy behind AIMERA® revolves around making industrial processes more efficient. By streamlining the complexities of quality assurance, Rist aims to improve the speed and accuracy of industrial product inspections. This camera is instrumental not only in ensuring product quality but also in preventing misdeliveries in logistics and enhancing customer satisfaction through data analysis on human behavior.
The Future of AI in Quality Control
Rist envisions AIMERA® as a catalyst for transforming traditional inspection processes, which have often been perceived as solely reliant on human capabilities. The introduction of AI allows for a drastic improvement in quality assurance and safety, liberating workers from repetitive tasks and enabling them to focus on higher-value activities.
Developer Insights
Teruaki Takamatsu, Producer/Director
As the manager of the Solution Division’s Innovation Lab at Rist, Takamatsu highlights the challenge of balancing device performance and design. Traditional image devices are constrained by the need for a strong exterior, limiting design creativity. By building an internal framework and strategically placing components, Takamatsu was able to achieve a seemingly bold design without compromising on strength or functionality. This innovative approach has led to the recognition of AIMERA® as a combination of optimal performance and design excellence.
Salvatore Laboua, Designer
Laboua, part of the hardware development team at Rist, acknowledges that the journey began with a simple idea: to optimize component placement while minimizing space without sacrificing function. Harmonizing the camera's lines and leveraging custom parts alongside advanced materials and technology has made this design achievable. Furthermore, a swift prototyping process helped reduce costs, making this ambitious vision a reality.
Evaluations by Good Design Award Judges
The AIMERA® camera integrates color lighting, low-energy edge AI computing and is capable of capturing images suitable for AI learning. The innovative design facilitates varied lighting control through an eight-section ring, enhancing the visibility of defects, which significantly improves the model's training outcomes. The judges commended its ability to foster AI integration across diverse applications, further solidifying AIMERA®'s place in the competitive market.
Upcoming Exhibition
The AIMERA® will also be showcased at the GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2025, happening from November 1 to 5 in Roppongi, Tokyo, where all award-winning products will be displayed.
