A recent survey by Deloitte, titled "2026 Chief Data and Analytics Officer", offers valuable insights into how these professionals are poised to lead organizations through the labyrinth of AI adoption.

The survey highlights that a staggering 94% of CDAOs anticipate an increase in their influence over the next year. This surge in confidence reflects the significant role that AI is playing in the decision-making processes across various sectors. There is an acknowledgment among leaders that their organizations are not fully capitalizing on the potential of their data assets. A concerning 95% believe there is room for improvement, highlighting a gap between data potential and realization.

While CDAOs focus on enhancing data quality and accessibility, they also recognize constraints in their current operations. Respondents noted hindrances such as insufficient resources for talent acquisition and retention, with 44% advocating for increased investments in skills training and development. Moreover, only 19% stated that their organizations maintain comprehensive privacy tools, underlining the need for better governance surrounding data usage.

Despite these challenges, CDAOs remain committed to their roles. The survey reveals that a majority of these leaders (56%) envision themselves in their positions for the long term, with only 9% considering a career shift soon. Interestingly, 62% feel that their actual responsibilities closely match their expectations, reflecting a degree of alignment in purpose.
