Montefiore Einstein and Mayor Patterson-Howard Open Upgraded Wellness Center in Mount Vernon Hospital

Montefiore Einstein Introduces the Upgraded Family Health and Wellness Center

On December 15, 2025, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, alongside Montefiore Einstein, celebrated the opening of the revitalized Family Health and Wellness Center at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital. This landmark event marks a significant advancement in healthcare accessibility and quality, backed by a $41 million grant from the New York State Capital Transformation Program.

The renovation project is the first phase of a comprehensive master plan aimed at enhancing services at the hospital. The upgraded center, featuring state-of-the-art facilities, is designed to provide both primary and specialized healthcare, and it will reopen its doors to patients on December 22, 2025. Services offered include cardiology, gynecology, infectious diseases, and neurology, as well as new offerings in otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat services). Additional specialized care will be introduced in response to needs identified in a recent Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) conducted in Mount Vernon.

Mayor Patterson-Howard expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "This opening showcases our commitment in action. Together with Montefiore Einstein's leadership, we have listened to our community's needs and responded accordingly, with tremendous support from the State and our elected representatives." She underscored the transition from planning to reality, emphasizing the long-term benefits this facility will bring to Mount Vernon residents.

Spanning 8,200 square feet, the facility is outfitted with new equipment, ergonomically designed exam rooms, an advanced electronic health records system, and mobile patient monitoring devices, all aimed at improving the efficiency of healthcare delivery.

Regginald Jordan, Vice President of Clinical Services and Executive Director of Montefiore Wakefield and Montefiore Mount Vernon, highlighted the positive implications of the renovation. "Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Montefiore Einstein in Mount Vernon," he noted. "With the support from the state and local leaders, we’re improving patient access and expanding services to meet the changing health needs of our community. We’re thrilled to welcome our patients back, knowing that their medical experiences will improve right here in Mount Vernon."

Previously, the Family Health and Wellness Center saw fewer than 10,000 patients annually. However, with the introduction of new services and a focus on patient care, Montefiore anticipates more than doubling that number. This initiative aims to facilitate quicker patient treatment by connecting them with the necessary specialists more efficiently than ever before.

Looking to the future, the next phases of the Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital transformation plan will include a redesign and upgrade of the emergency department and the expansion of operating rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology. Completion of these improvements is expected in the latter half of 2027.

State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey remarked, "I am proud to have contributed to securing the funding necessary for revitalizing Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital. By listening to our community and working together, we’ve taken a substantial step forward in addressing health inequities and enhancing wellness for all residents here. Moreover, this is just the beginning of what this investment will yield."

Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow, who has represented the community for nearly 40 years, highlighted the significance of this development, stating, "Today represents a considerable milestone that ensures we continue to improve our community's health and vibrancy. Together with my colleagues, including Senator Bailey and Mayor Patterson-Howard, we are dedicated to ensuring that all members of Mount Vernon have access to the best comprehensive healthcare possible. Thank you, Montefiore Einstein, for caring for our community, and we look forward to celebrating more milestones in the future."
