FAMAR Group Partners with GE HealthCare for New Manufacturing Facility

FAMAR Group is set to make a significant impact in the European pharmaceutical landscape by signing a contract manufacturing agreement with GE HealthCare. The collaboration will focus on filling and finishing vials of iodine-based contrast media at FAMAR's newly acquired site in Homburg, Germany. Production is expected to commence in 2028, thereby bolstering GE HealthCare's manufacturing capacity to meet the growing needs of its customers across Europe.

Expanding Manufacturing Capacity

Iodine-based contrast media plays a crucial role in medical imaging processes such as Computed Tomography (CT), X-Ray, and interventional imaging. These substances help enhance the visibility of organs, blood vessels, and tissues, which are essential for accurate clinical diagnoses. Through this partnership, the Homburg facility aims to produce up to 25 million patient doses each year, contributing significantly to GE HealthCare's supply network by 2031.

Dr. Riku Rautsola, CEO of FAMAR Group, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, "The Homburg site will provide world-class manufacturing with scalable capacity. We are honored to work alongside GE HealthCare, ensuring that we meet high manufacturing standards to support their evolving requirements."

Strategic Acquisition and Future Plans

FAMAR Group acquired the Homburg facility from MiP Pharma in September 2025. The company has ambitious plans to develop this site into a multi-customer Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) platform. This expansion is part of FAMAR's strategy to enhance its capabilities in high-value dosage forms, particularly in aseptic and lyophilized fill-finish processes, positioning itself as a center of excellence for sterile supply.

François Roche, General Manager of EMEA for GE HealthCare's Pharmaceutical Diagnostics segment, also recognized the importance of this agreement: "This partnership will enable us to continue scaling up our production capacity, which is essential to meet the rising demand from our European clients while also enhancing the resilience of our manufacturing network."

GE HealthCare, known for its robust global supply chain, provides over 100 million patient doses of contrast media each year, sourcing active pharmaceutical ingredients from its Lindesnes facility in Norway. The Homburg site under FAMAR Group adds to its seven existing facilities across Europe, thus enhancing the company’s ability to offer flexible and high-quality production solutions to its clients.
