H.I.G. Capital and Barts Health NHS Trust Launch Groundbreaking Life Sciences Project

A New Era in Healthcare Innovation: H.I.G. Capital and Barts Health NHS Trust Unite

On January 19, 2026, H.I.G. Capital, a prominent global alternative investment firm managing $74 billion, announced an exciting partnership with the Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK. Together, they have embarked on the ambitious Barts Life Sciences Project, aimed at revolutionizing healthcare innovation through a dedicated collaborative space in East London.

The Vision Behind the Project

The partnership reflects a strategic blend of resources and expertise, merging H.I.G.’s investment strength with Barts Health’s clinical excellence. The central component will be the development of a 15,800-square-meter facility located on Cavell Street, aimed at creating a pioneering center for applied healthcare innovation within the newly launched Barts Life Sciences Cluster.

This cluster focuses on establishing a world-class ecosystem that integrates clinical, research, innovation, and commercial activities related to MedTech, AI, digital health, and therapeutics. The project represents a significant step toward enhancing collaborative models between clinicians, researchers, and industries in the healthcare sector.

Advancing Healthcare Through Collaboration

Cavell Street is designed to serve as a collaborative center where businesses can engage directly with healthcare professionals from Barts Health. This environment aims to facilitate the development, testing, and refinement of next-generation technologies related to medical technology, artificial intelligence, and digital health. By immersing these innovations in real clinical settings, Barts Health seeks to fast-track the journey from prototype to patient.

Shane DeGaris, Group CEO of Barts Health NHS Trust, emphasized the project's potential to bridge gaps between clinicians, patients, industry, and academia in innovative ways.
