Major Investment in Tungsten Mine Project in Nevada to Reinforce Supply Chain

Major Investment in the Springer Tungsten Complex

The recent announcement from Blue Moon Metals Inc., The Elmet Group Co., and EQ Resources Limited marks a transformative step for tungsten production in the United States. This multi-party investment, totaling between $150 million and $175 million, seeks to revitalize the Springer Tungsten Complex located in Imlay, Nevada. This facility was once a leading tungsten mine and has the potential to enhance the domestic supply chain for this critical mineral, used in various industries including defense and technology.

Overview of the Project

The Springer Project houses significant infrastructure, including both open pit and underground mines, a milling facility capable of processing 1,200 tons per day, and an APT (Ammonium Paratungstate) plant that could produce up to 4,000 tons annually. Following the necessary approvals gained on August 20, 2026, construction and redevelopment plans are set to commence, aiming for production resumption by late 2027.

The mine sits on fee lands and boasts a historical mineral resource estimate of around 10.7 million tons of tungsten ore, with ongoing assessments to upgrade this estimate to current resource standards.

The Investment Breakdown

This investment initiative consists of multiple transactions designed to create a joint venture aimed at managing the APT plant while retaining Blue Moon’s ownership of the mine and the mill. Notably, Elmet’s investment will include a direct equity stake in Blue Moon, representation on its board, and capital contributions toward the plant operations. Additionally, a prepayment facility for tungsten sales will support the cash flow necessary for startup costs.

TEG, as part of the agreement, commits to approximately $150 million while reserving an extra $25 million for contingencies. This collaborative effort is aligned with the U.S. Department of War's initiative to secure American tungsten supplies, reinforcing domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Strategic Importance

The resurgence of tungsten production in the U.S. cannot be overstated. The tungsten concentrate from the Springer Complex is poised to become a critical resource against global supply chain vulnerabilities, especially in sectors essential for national security and major industries—ranging from aerospace to technology. With this investment, the goal is to reduce reliance on foreign tungsten imports, thereby strengthening the U.S. industrial base.

Christian Kargl-Simard, CEO of Blue Moon, expressed gratitude towards all parties involved, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing this project. Both Peter V. Anania, Chairman and CEO of The Elmet Group, and Craig Bradshaw, Managing Director of EQ Resources, voiced confidence in rebuilding a secure tungsten supply chain involving domestic production, processing, and manufacturing.

Future Projections

As the investment materializes, it will catalyze efforts for reengineering processes and enhancing tungsten mining techniques, including the integration of innovative ore-sorting technology. The projected timeline indicates initial production could begin as early as the end of 2027, setting the stage for an updated operational framework that accounts for sustainability and efficiency.

Overall, this investment by Blue Moon, Elmet Group, and EQ Resources signifies a positive trend for the U.S. tungsten industry and a crucial step toward achieving more self-sufficient processing capabilities for this vital mineral. It highlights the necessity for ongoing investment and collaboration among key players to ensure long-term success in the mining and resource sector, pivotal both domestically and globally.
