Date and Time

  • - When: February 10, 2026 (Tuesday), 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
  • - Mode: Hybrid (in-person and via Zoom)

Presentation Topics

  • - Title: "Who is at Risk for Liver Cancer? Key Information for Prevention"
Speaker: Dr. Tetsuro Shimakami, Kanazawa University
Abstract: Liver cancer ranks as the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths, known as a major cancer due to its often silent nature. The primary risk factor for liver cancer is infection with Hepatitis B or C viruses. However, there has been a worrying increase in cases arising from non-viral conditions like fatty liver due to lifestyle factors like overeating and lack of exercise. With advancements in antiviral therapies, those with viral hepatitis can significantly lower their chances of developing liver cancer. This presentation will elucidate strategies to combat both viral and fatty liver conditions, emphasizing the power of knowledge and preventive measures in combating liver cancer.
  • - Title: "C Hepatitis Virus Research: Past, Present, Future"
Speaker: Dr. Daisuke Yamane, Tokyo Medical Research Institute
Abstract: Developing antiviral treatments has relied heavily on establishing techniques for culturing the Hepatitis C virus, which has historically posed challenges. Despite recent advancements in highly effective antiviral medications, infections remain prevalent globally, with many unaware of their condition. Cases of liver cancer occurring after viral elimination present ongoing challenges in this field. This session will explore contemporary trends in liver disease and cutting-edge treatments, alongside updates on ongoing viral research initiatives.
